Flash me your tint - tints people, i said tints

Featured Replies

Bit off topic, but those wheels look sweet Leeboy!

Did they come that colour or did you get them painted? It's the first octy I've seen with graphite wheels!

I picked them up second hand, but yeah, they were that colour in the beginning, not sure on the make though, but do the job nicely

More off-topicness. Is that a Milotec rear splitter?

One more for the collection.

Regarding fronts, on here they are 25% and were legal when fitted 7 years ago, is it my fault that the law has since changed - how does it apply retrospectively? Beside I think the measurement of light transmission is completely flawed, standard glass without any tint (by which I mean OEM tint) will not transmit 100% light, so what's the basis for the prescribed minimum permissible light transmission level? Any law types care to answer?

As a rough estimation, I'd suggest I can easily see a vehicle approaching in the dark with lights on over a mile away were I waiting to pull out at a junction on a straight flat road; I can see streetlights and all sorts from the Isle of Wight to Gosport across the Solent which is 4 miles :giggle:

Dark limo tints on fronts are stupid but very light smokes don't in my opinion present a hazard, but if deemed so by law mkers then surely driving with suglasses must also be a danger and so should be banned B).

You'll see from that, that even your 25% tinted windows, combined with the standard factory tint, will make them illegal. Unless of course the film gives you 75% transmission when combined with that overall.

As i mentioned earlier standard glass lets through about 78% light. Regarding the earlier comment (i forget by who) about getting points and a £60 fine, i think that is quite harsh and would like to know what endorsement code was put on your license? Most i've known is a £30/VDRS/remove the film at the roadside.

i didnt get 3 points i was let off by nice copper but made to remove there and then but got the fine

the guy infront of me got the book thrown at him in his mitsi evo 3 points for limo tints on front gave 7% reading lol and 3 points for dodgy number plates the guy was almost in tears. this is what happens when you try to be smart with the old bill you loose lol

i kept quiet alwas said sorry sir etc etc although my front come in at 28% anything under 30% is instant 3 points he wrote down 30% so i just got a fine ( also helped having kids and better half in the car )

It is so, but now sits on Westallc's car after a bumper and bootlid swap, fitted it seven years ago, but still available, not sure though in NZ

I don't doubt they are illegal, but what's the basis on 75% transmission been safe and 74% not, who says, where's the justification and how appropriate is the means of measuring using the hand held devices carried by traffic police?

It's still on my wish list - Suiperskoda.com have them in stock.

The laws about tints are different again in NZ. Normal saloon cars are not allowed any tint anywhere but there's a get out that says if you have door mirrors to give rear visibility it's okay

Utes, 4 wheel drives and vans can have any tint from B pillar back.

I've passed all my warrant of fitness tests so far so mine must look factory to them :)

Have you considered the sunshade blinds advertised on ebay by the company in Mansfield, We find them very good . If you would like to see them fitted then send me a pm . Just off Wells Road BS4

Do you mean OE sunshades? I bought some over four years ago and while they may not be as cool a tints, they are more versatile as they can be removed in less than 5 seconds each and cost less. Also, they can be sold when you get rid of the car.

I just took one pic now, but it was into direct sunlight, so sorry about the quality. The other is from a while ago on one of my early morning runs out near Whitby.
