Tyres and brakes?

Featured Replies

Had the M.O.T today and the furby passed with only 2 advisory's. 1 being low tread on rear tyres and the other low rear pads.

Ive currently got Barum Bravuris tyres on the rear and I will be replaceing them with the same tyres as they've done over 40,000 miles (35+ of that on the front) Found a place that will fit them for £105 so thats all good.

But the problem Im having is decided on rear disc's and pads. Can get both at eurocarparts for £47 and there made by pigad. But that seems a little too cheap to be any good.

Any Recommendation would be great.

Stephen.

Both sides for £47?

Cheep cheep!

GSF or similar can offer OEM stuff, think ferodo make pads for vRS as mine has ferodo stamped on pad!

Uniroyal rainsport 2's can be found fitted for 65 quid a corner, must better tyre than a barum!

I rate the Goodyear F1 Eagle GSD3s myself. :)

Best tyre I have owned  and wont be fitting anything else any time soon ;)

rear discs and pads...doesn't matter as much as front imo. You are better off just getting some rears from eurocarparts or a motor factors. Pagid are a very good brand and the oem front pads are made by them when the vRS rolled out of the factory

agree with above post, pagid are good brand, we been fitting them for years and never had anyone coming back complaining about them. i got pagid in front and backs on my vrs and stops fine no problems.

Barum are made by continental, And for what your paying your getting great value for money.

Ive got the fitted at the front and I cant get on with them. They seem to understeer for me and not that great in the wet. Might be down to my worn console bushes though.

Anyway cheers guys think ill get the pigid disc's and pads and put the money I save toward the 312 set up :p

give me a shout if ya interested in um.

I can't understand why people are happy so spend large amounts of money on modding to get more power but then go cheap when it comes to rubber and brakes???

Stating the obvious but your brakes stop you from hitting anything and anybody and your tyres are the only things between you and the road. Yours tyres are the only thing holding you on the road when you are going round corners. These are potentially the most overlooked yet the most important things on your car.

Get mintex/ferodo/tarox even though they are only rears. Rubber get minimum falken/continental/goodyear/unirolyal etc... They are all more expensive for a reason - because they are better!

Just my 2p

I thoroughly agree with this statement.:)

You know it makes sense! Although i'm normally so controversial on here that nobody ever agrees with me. I must be making sense for a change

i agree with you mate you cant skimp out on the rubber for the car. ive got the yokohama prada sdrive tyres and they are rather impressive in all conditions :)

Just out of interest, what are the OE tyres spec'd on a VRS? Mine has Bridgestones on which I was told were the originals.

and i run yokohama parada spec2 tires

I agree with you. If you up rate your power do the brakes and handling first.

But my car is standard, I drive in a manor where I never need to have super duper performance tyres. Like I said I will be upgrading the fronts to 312mm when I have the money just in case. Also the Barum Bravuris tyres punch well above there price range. Quite alot of merc drivers seem to use them.
