Faulty Cruise Control - 56 Reg Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

The CC seems to have stopped working. From what I have googled it seems as if its a common problem. Ive not long had the car (Approx 3/4 months), and that I MAY require a new CC switch... Is there anyway of finding out fault codes DIY style without going to a garage? Or can you take existing stalkt off and give it a clean?

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers,

J.

Have a look through the forums, you dont need a new switch as you can DIY fix the current one without removing it from the car in about 5 mins.

Although, first things first I would check that the brake lights are working as there are a number of things that cause CC to fail, just the CC switch is the most common.

Clean the switch first. It cured mine for over a year. I also bought a used stalk from a Golf with the same (removable) switch. Removed the switch, cleaned it and use it as a spare. Changing switches takes no more than a couple of seconds.

The newer stalks cannot be opened anymore. But these dont have the same problem as the older stalks.

I did the above on my 56 plate vRS this morning and it fixed my cruise control problem, took less than 5 minutes. It's worth a try before shelling out for a new stalk.

Recieved a full new stalk today but is this a garage only fit job with steering wheel needing to come off or easily done at home?

Can be done at home if youve got the tools to do it.....easy did mine in 15 mins and thats with reprogramming engine and steering controler.

Hi I find this site pretty useful. I have an issue with my Skoda Octavia L&K 2002 A4 model which mainly have to do with the Cruise Control. My cruise control switch allows me to lock the car at the desired speed & even allows me to decelerate or excelerate using the CC switch. However after some time, it suddenly let go of the set speed & does not activate again.

Once the car is turned off & ignition key removed & the car restated, it works fine until the whole issue repeats itself again.

Can anyone assist with this, will changing the CC stalk help solve this issue? My ABS light on the instrument pannel also comes on sometimes, I have been told that the ABS motor needs to be replaced. Is the ABS motor failure the cause of the CC failure?

Awaiting inputs & I drive long distances for work & am quite handicapped without the Crusie Control.

Thanks,

Bruce.
