Tow bar fitment.

Featured Replies

Ok, this could be a total long shot, and i could get the info from the tow bar manufacturer on Tuesday, but i just cant wait for the infomation. :p

I have a Seat Leon with a Tow bar fitted. Im going to buy an Octavia 1 ESTATE.

So they are both on a MK4 Golf Chassis!

Can I salvage the tow-bar off my Leon for the Octavia before I part exchange it in???

In my little mind (lol) it sounds a long shot, as the Leon is a Hatchback and so theoreticaly the towbar wouldnt even show its shiny face on an estate, however one of the many garages that was trying to force an Octavia on me today said, "it shouldnt be a probelm"!

(BS??)

Thanks in advance

Dan

If your removing the towbar from the Leon, do you have the original crash bar to fit back in its place?

??

Presumably this is still fitted, as it was professionally installed, with no bits left over.

When I fitted a towbar to my Octy estate, I had to replace the rear crash bar. The standard bar is held on by 3 bolts on each side which are spot welded to the chassis (one of them bolts fell off in my fingers when I was putting the nuts back on. The replacement crash bar with the mounting to the towball has a set of arms which run down towards the rear wheel arches.

Here we go:

You can see the 3 nuts and bolts for the holding the old crash bar into place (circled in red), and how the new bar fits.

And an image of the original crash bar from my octy:

See what you mean now. Wonder if the Oct crash bar would fit the Leon then, ie: just straight swop them over when I part-ex it in.

Now that I don't know, might depend on how accommodating your dealer is as well. Here is the part number for the crash bar from my 2001 Octy estate

If that number matches that of what is fitted to standard (non-towbar) Leon, you might be onto a winner (assuming the fitment of the Leon bar works on the Octy). Guess the easiest thing is to do is pop the rear bumper off both cars and have a look....

I doubt that they will be the same 1U is an Octavia only part number, so I would imagine that the Leon will have a different part number to this.

Just fitted one to my octy and the manufactorer lists all MkIV golf derivatives as using the same bar. Just had to cut the bumper differant for the leon. So it should fit.
