Service Indicator being rather weird

Featured Replies

My Octavia VRS PD is just over 2 years old, and done 26K miles. It's on variable servicing and It had it's first service at 18K miles.

I checked the service indicator this morning and it now says:

3200 miles next to the little spanner

and

431 days next to the little clock !

None of this makes sense to me.

Ok I guess a service could be due in 3200 miles making a total of about 12000 since last service which is plausible but seems short considering most people seem to get around 18K between variable services. But how on earth would 3200miles take me 431 days to cover when I do about 13K miles per year.

Anyone got an explanation / advice ?

This is OK I think, mine was showing 8000 miles and 430 days to next service a while ago. The display will show that the car is counting down to the 2 years on time to the next service, however the computer is also calculating the optimum time to the next service based on the usage you are giving the car, i.e. short trips, town running or long trips and motorway mileage. Whichever comes up first will determine when the car will next ask for a service, you have done 8000 miles so the car is saying that the type of trips you are doing, with the condition of the oil at the moment will mean that it wants a service in 3200 miles.

Cheers Ian

So the two numbers are not actually linked mathematically, that makes more sense. Thanks.
