My friend has just bought his son a 53 plate Polo and now he reports that the "pedal box has gone." Has anyone heard of this problem and know what would be needed to fix it??

The Polo prior to that suffered from pedal box failure - and had a recall issued on the GTi models. I think they just reweald it back together, or strenghten them if they haven't failed. Think it was generally the heavy clutches for the 1.4's and 1.6's that broke them, and it was usually the clutch pedal that suffered.

I think a couple of hundred pounds springs to mind to fix, but mine was under warranty so I have no idea. Might be worth checking Vosa to see if they issued a recall on that model?

Guess whoever onwned the car at the time of the recall failed to take it in or wasn't contacted.

I did a bit of research and apparently there wasn't a recall but due to it being a common problem they are willing to foot the bill anyway! Shame Skoda aren't doing the same with MK60 Teves ABS unit!!

He sent a polite email to the manager of the local VW pusher and mentioned something like "need I remind you about Toyota's recent public pedal problems" The manager rang him straight back and booked the car in
