How much will this cost to fix? (Not Again!)

Featured Replies

First time in almost two years that I don't drive to work, and I get home to find this has happened while I was at work.

I didn't spot the damage to wing until I went to take pictures about an hour later. The only bright side to this incident is that someone working in the office next to where my car was parked saw it happen, got the registration of vehicle, and the name of the driver and her telephone number.

Any thoughts as to how much this is likely to cost?

go to a body shop and get a quote and send her the bill or go throw insurance it wont cost you a penny as you have her details

As you have the details of who did it, it's going to cost you nothing emoticon-0100-smile.gif Just as well really, as at a quick guess there's £3-400 of damage there unless the wing mirror casing can be rescued

Bad luck with the car. At least you got the persons details. As I was reading and saw the pics I assumed the person would have driven away leaving you to foot the bill. I assume the person who did it must have stopped otherwise I doubt the office worker would have got out in time.

I assume it is going to be a new wing mirror that it going to cost a few hundred and the wing will probably be another £200 or so. Hence I would expect it to be over £500 all in.

I think she was parking when she hit my car, plus given how narrow and busy the road I live on is there was never going to be a fast getaway.

I live within 100 meters of a Junior school, and given how narrow the road is, and how reckless parents seem to be at parking when school ends I'm surprised it hasn't happened before. First time in 9 years!

I don't believe it!

Insure company passed my claim on Help hire. They arranged for a the delivery of a hire car, a 58 reg VW Golf, and for a bodyshop to collect my car. Bodyshop phoned yesterday to let me know my car was ready, and I arranged to pick it up on Friday morning.

I get home this evening and find this!

Someone has hit every panel on the drivers side, door mirror (again!), the rear bumper and the sill. I've lived here for 10 years and nothing has even happend, and now two cars in 10 days.

Gobsmacked!

That's just outrageous.

Even worse if whoever did it didn't leave any details

No driver details. When my car was hit 10 days ago the chap in the office downstairs got the details of the driver who hit me, but only because he was unloading his van at the time, I fear I'm not going to be so lucky this time, but I'll check tomorrow.

No idea how much the this is going to cost me, the only plus side is that I took the additional insurance Help Hire where offering on the hire car. Having just had my car hit I was felling nervous but I never actually though it would happen again!

Bloody hell.

That's some bad luck.

I thought things like that only happened to me

Is there no CCTV near where you had it parked?

Also have you rung the police to get a crime no. for the insurance?

I feel for you there mate. Twice in one week isn't good.

I thought I was unlucky having my windscreen replaced twice within a month

The police directed me to their website where I downloaded a form. I'll fill it out and take it to the local station tomorrow. (Great, it's 20 page long and I my printer has run out of ink 11 pages into it)

I'm nowhere near as angry as I was last week even though the damage is much worse. I'm resigned to fact that most drivers are arses when it comes to hitting a parked car. last weeks drivers claimed she didn't realise she had hit me, I suspect she would have driven off had someone not seen her. It not being my car helps, but I'm annoyed for the hire car company. Several hundred pounds in damages and a missing car from their fleet all because of a careless driver who disapeared.

Now just need to see how much this accident will end me costing me.

Bad luck.....I just cant believe what your going through, hope you get sorted and back to normal asap

That's unbelieveable..... Goes to show the way this country is going. Hope you're back to normal soon, and everything goes your way..

I had the name and address freely given by a female who backed into by fabia, she then refused to acknowledge that she was involved in a accident ,it took 9 months for her to inform her insurance company , then my insurance company said best to settle 50/50 i said get stuffed, and eventually my excess of £240 was paid by her insurance company, I sincerely hope you have a stress free claim against your guilty party

Well I've spoken to Help Hire

At this point it seems that as I paid for the excess wavier, my losses for the damage to the replacement car will be less than £30 (I just pay for the extra insurance cover). As the the original damage to my car was a no fault claim on the other parties insurance that will cost me nothing. So considering the damage done to both cars I've been very lucky to get away with only £30. but it is just luck!

However, I don't feel like driving home. There is a temptation to leave my now repaired Skoda in the secure car park at work and get the train home. I've had bigger, flasher, faster and more expensive cars, and they've all been parked on-street in Greater London for over 15 years, and even though I accepted that at some point I was going come back and find damage, it never happened, and now that it has happen to two 'family cars' in the space of 10 days I'm not looking forward to getting home and deciding where to park.

I'm sure it will pass in a few days, but I'm also wondering how much I can buy a 10 year old diesel Fabia with imperfect bodywork for.
