cd changer

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a 2004 Octavia VRS 1.8.

I've just driven home and attempted to play a CD but the display reads MECHANIC. I presume I have to take to a skoda dealer to get it fixed, however, I was wondering if anybody else had had this problem and new of a 'quick fix'?

I await your replies in anticipation.

Cheers

when mine said that i took out the cd cartridge and put it back in after removing and replacing the cd's again, its never happened again either

Mine says it every few months, remove the cd changer, check the cd's for damage and make sure no dust or debris is in the cd changer. This normally fixes the job for me.

As above.

Mine does it now and again. I usually just take the CD box out blow any dust off and it's fine.

Other option is it's a dodgy CD.

I found that if I switched the CD's around it fixed the problem, but it only ever did it on CD6!

I have just posted a thread on how to fix this problem:

CD Changer "MECHANIC" error fix

All you need is a couple of cotton buds and some IPA alcohol.
