White smokey smelly fumes from Octy VRS tdi

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had my 56 reg Vrs tdi for 2 days now and loving it, only thing is when starting it and for the first 10 miles or so I have whitish, diesel or oil smelling smoke belching from the exhaust. So far no one I've spoken to about it is that concerned and advised putting Forte stuff thru it when re fuelling (have done). Really just wondered if anyone else has this problem and if it is a problem, or just normal?

Would be grateful for any advice/help.....ta :-)

That's not right, I would get it checked out as soon as possible

I'd be worried about hte turbo oil seals.

Get that seen to quickly.

Thanks for that advice, bf said there when I told him of your suggestions that the smoke was actually blue tinged and that there was no smoke whatsoever on acceleration....(although I followed him driving it and did smoke a bit for a mile-ish). Certainly didnt notice any today when driving the first 5 miles but when I stopped at lights I could smell it first then the smoke started again...oh dear, actually nipped my eyes when changing the CDs in the boot!! Yuck! :-( Have it booked in for next Wednesday so fingers crossed.

Id get it in quicker than next wednesday!

Id get it in quicker than next wednesday!

Or don't drive it!

White smoke from the exhaust actually points to water being boiled in the engine cylinders and turning to steam, if you have to keep driving it I would suggest that you treat the car gently and keep a close eye on the condition and level of oil and water in the engine, if oil starts to turn creamy or water starts to turn black(should be pink), or have black scum mark in water bottle then this points to head gasket problems.

If the problem is turbo oil seals, driving it could see the turbo charger blow and send bits of itself into the engine, inter cooler and exhaust system. This would be fundamentally very bad and also expensive.

My turbo blow off in my A4 and it sent clouds of white smoke to the atmosphere.

Even couple of damned children clapped   watching it.

This required an expensive fix. Be careful.
