Couple of issues....?

Featured Replies

Got a couple of issues someone might be able to help with...

Firstly, the cd player (standard). When I start the engine with a cd already loaded it makes this dreadful clicking sound for 5-10 seconds then either plays the cd normally or it says "error" and plays nothing (if I eject the cd and re-load it it plays fine). When I kill the ignition after a drive the player then clicks again for a few seconds. Ok this isnt really a big prooblem but it gets on my nerves lol. Anyone else experienced something similar?

Secondly is a hard to explain noise, its kind of like a vibration/whirring noise that seems to fill the cabin but isnt obvious (ie my wife says she cant hear it). It seems to happen when slowing down and not using the brakes, and to me it seems to be louder when cornering left. I know my description of the problem isnt the best, but could it be something to do with the suspension or a bush issue?

Thanks ;)

Yes I have the same issue with the clicking headunit. It doesn't always do it, but I usually let it clear itself or switch the headunit on and off again. I'm too lazy to do anything about, cause it still works.

The vibration / or whirring noise you're hearing could be down to tyres, or a wheel bearing. Worth swapping your tyres around first (bear mind if they are directional) from front to back. If there the noise is still there (and you've visibly checked for anything catching the discs, driveshafts, or wheels etc), then it will be probably be a wheel bearing. It's not uncommon for them to need doing - I had my front nearside replaced nearly 2 years ago at a cost of £170, which was 2 hours labour and the rest on parts.

Yes, the cd is irritating more than anything, but it still works :)

Will swap the wheels around this week to see if that makes any difference. Topped up the tyres yesterday and it did seem to make an improvement so hopefully it's not too serious. Have a 1yr warranty from the Skoda dealer so if it ends up costing money it will be for them not me lol.

...speaking of the warranty... I bought the car as Skoda approved which includes the 1yr warranty. The documentation actually states that it's an AA mechanical warranty, so does that mean they carry out any repairs? I should get the paperwork out and read the small print I guess!

We had a similar unidentifiable noise on our Fabia VRS - it went away after we had the rear disks and pads changed (they had corroded after 47K miles).
