1.9 oil burner tuning

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any basic tuning tips that I can use to get a few more BHP out of my 1.9 oil burner. Air box mods, K&N filters, exhaust etc. I know I am not going to get beyond the "pulling the skin off a rice pudding stage " but we all have to start somewhere.

Cheers,

yes fit the bits from a golf TDI engine to it.... jumps from 68 bhp to 90 or so :giggle:B)

These are old-school mechanical injection engines, aren't they?

If so, yeah the Golf TD parts will fit pretty much straight on, but are the compression ratios the same? They weren't on the PSA XUD engines.

Otherwise, try your Yellow Pages for a Bosch or Turner diesel place, and explain to their chargehand what you're trying to do; they usually have someone who knows how to open up a mechanical diesel pump a bit.

yes compression ratio is the same, everything bolts on easily and makes for a very nippy felicia.

on a smaller scale removing the cat (no its not needed for mot on a diesel) does help with throttle responce and adjusting the pump timing ever so slightly does wonders too.

the cheapest mod you can do is to remove al the intake box and trumpets and clean all the gunge off them thats caused by the egr valve, then disable the egr valve by inserting a plain shim where the gasket is

as tesco says, "every little helps"

are there any more detailed guides on here that anyone has bookmarked? i did a search earlier today and couldnt find any topics on the subject of tuning the std 1.9 oil burner
