Connecting Lap top to TV

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Is there away i can connect my Lap top to my Tv (pictures and sound)

so i can watch i player and 4OD etc. on my tv.

I have a new LG flat screen with lots of sockets on the back! and a Fujitsu lap top.

The reason i want to do this is that we are about to move, so will have to use the Laptop to get catchup tv as there is no Virgin Media, and don't want Sky, due to shortage of funds.

Many thanks,

If that's a round yellow socket, then yes.

What sort off leads would i need?

If the TV has a VGA port (blue, trapeziod type port, normally with screws on it) then yes, or if both the TV and laptop have HDMI then yes, or as said - S-video connection.

VGA - http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item563c731827

HDMI - http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item3f00419c82

S-video - http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item4aa174bd75

The S-video one I'm not sure about, have tried some myself and never come off well. VGA is the safest bet IMO, with HDMI being the best quality if it works. Off hand I can't remeber which end of the wire needs to be male/female, so check that first! But otherwise the above should be a decent base guide.

Also, check out http://www.tvcatchup.com/ if you haven't already - all freeview channels live free, as long as you hold a TV license (although guess you've no need for that if you're plugging into a TV already!).

Thanks for the links,

Does the VGA do sound as well?

Nope, sound will go via the inbuilt laptop speakers - or you can use the headphone out on the laptop to either a hifi, or a telly using either of these leads - depending upon what connections your device has.

Hope that helps.

Does the VGA do sound as well?

No, you need to either connect the sound out from the lappy to the in on the tv separate either a single jack from the Green plug or optical if your TV/ Lappy have / accept it. Otherwise connect the laptop direct to surround sound system if you have one.

Thanks for the above answers,

Think i will try the VGA route see how it goes,

I have a good set of speakers, will the sound be in sinc with the picture on the tv?

Sound be - if it is out, it will only be as bad as headphones.

The easiest way if your laptop and TV have HDMI sockets is to connect them using an HDMI cable then select the AV channel number on the TV that corresponds to the HDMI socket.
