Cam belt noise

Featured Replies

 I had my cam belt changed at the garage 4k miles ago and it has started to squeak when cold, and no its not the alternator belt as i have changed this and the tensoiner.

Just a few questions.........

1. Does the cambelt have an automatic tensoer?

2. How much play should there be in the belt? I can twist the belt about 130 degrees on the longest part.

3. do you think the garage would fix it for me even if it is out of waranty? ( They changed it when it was in waranty gue to the water pump making a noise )

4. Could I due it myself, so I know that it has been done right ( dont trust the garage anymore :thumbdwn: )

Cheers

1. Yes but they can leak and go loose.

2. About 90 degrees id expect

3. If they fitted a cambelt 4,000 miles ago i'd let them have a look first. All work carried out and parts used should have a one year warranty on it iirc.

4. They aint the easiest of cambelts to do for 1st timers, the mounting is the biggest pain as it doesnt come out, you have to work around it.

cheers for the reply ross, feel like a pain at the min..... Blo**y car is driving me insain, it has only done 31k and has had more problems than my 10yr old escort.......

The engine mount you mean is not the one under the coolent bottle, but the one acutally on the engine

might get the garage to have a look, they will proberly say it is ok knowing them

So you carnt add any manual tension it is fully automatic, this will mean changing the tensoner again?

4000 miles seems like a short time, and I dont even have any mods :thumbdwn:
