ASR / battery warning light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2004 1.9TDI. My ASR warning light was coming on after 10 minutes, and reset each time I restarted the engine. I took it to my local skoda dealer who found a broken cable from the alternator to the battery which he fixed in half an hour. Since then, my battery warning light is behaving differently than usual. Now when I turn the key (but without starting the engine) all the warning lights come on, then all but the battery and the engine management light go out. Both of these go out when the engine starts.

The engine management light always did this, but the battery warning light used to go out before. Is this something to worry about, or should I take it back to the garage if they've knocked a wire loose somewhere?

Many thanks in advance for any pointers!

Best wishes,

Paul

The way it is working now is like mine - all the lights except battery and CEL(engine management) light go out - then when you start the engine they also go out.

This is how mine has always worked and all the other seat/vw cars i have ever driven

Hi Deano,

Wow that was a quick reply!! Phew this is good news - you've saved me from a trip back to the garage! I was puzzled as this is new behaviour, but if it's doing now what it's supposed to then that is fine by me!

With many thanks,

Paul

The battery charge light goes out before the engine is started if there is a fault, so your is now working fine

Hello paul_nl

My Fabia VRS does what your car is now doing, regarding light sequences.

Thanks MoggyTech and giandougl!

I suppose it makes sense really - the battery can't charge when the engine is not turning over, and it can when the engine does...

With best wishes,

Paul
