Hello briskodians,

I own a 2001 octy 1.8T vrs with 70k on the clock and was really happy with it until I started to "tune" it.

First I remapped the ECU but something was wrong with the map and the car started to run lean, then rich and after some tweaks it was OK (I think).

After that I installed the eBay silicone TIP, N75J valve, BMC air filter and Forge splitter valve and for a while everything was OK till I installed Milltek decat non resonated exhaust.

Car started to have problem with boost fluctuation, with stock exhaust the boost was around 1 bar and with Milltek was around 1.5bar so I went again to same shop and they remapped it again but now overboost is 1.7bar which is obviously too much for KO3s turbo. But my problems just have started, did I mentioned that this is a brand new turbo which I bought 8 month ago? Now my car is emitting BLUE SMOKE on idle!!

Example; I let it idle for a few minutes after driving it and push the throttle a couple of times and it starts to smoke for a few second and then stops.

I drove the car with this map maybe two days, maybe it was smoking before but only now I have noticed it.

Here in Croatia there`s no decent tuner that can put the car on rollers and tuned it right so I was "forced" to go to "parking" tuners shops as they are called here.

I really don`t think that Skoda will exchange the turbo under the warranty and I will be forced to buy another turbo so I decided to go to Slovenia to tune my car properly.

I called the guy who is a specialist for 1.8T VAG motors and he suggested following;

-KO4 Hybrid

-Forge FMIC ( I bought it already)

-Milltek decat non resonated (already have)

-S3 injectors or 440cc

-S3 MAF housing

-Walbro fuel pump

-Some sensor which monitors turbo temperature and if needed it tells ECU to flush the motor with fuel to cool it down ( Something like that)

-Custom map made on rollers

Maybe I forget something but generally this is it, also he told me that I can expect around 250 bhp.

Any advices are welcome because I really want to do it right this time.... :( :(

Best regards

to fit the k04 you will need a new down pipe and new k04 mannifold and oil and water lines

and intake pipe work etc etc

you will also need to dothe internals as you will be pushing the car close to its max before it throws a rod out the side of the block

doesnt need a walbro just a 4 bar fuel pump from s3 or cupra r

you will also have to then think about getting the power down and a diff will be needed as you will eat the standard diff

also you will need to uprated the clutch as it wont cope

as you can see the list goes on and on not as easy as it makes it sound lol

your best bet is to go for a k03s hybrid bolts onto stock mannifold uses the same down pipe and oil and water lines doesnt need loads of sensors or walbro pump etc etc

power levels will be fine on stock internal and clutch will be fine also

a big difference between the 2 hth

He told me that on this turbo the milltek exhaust is strait bolt on, only the intake diameter is different. Oil lines and everything else is the same. The clutch needs to be upgraded according to him with carbon layer or something... :wonder:

ko4 is completly different are you sure he didnt mean a k03 hybrid turbo???

I think he said KO4 hybrid 99% sure.. :S

Im only starting on tweeking my car and im new to doing that sort of stuff but would it not be better to do the remap after you add all the goodys and then get a custom map done ??? but could be rong :-)

Its kinda like taking a **** then lifting the lid up :giggle:

I think he said KO4 hybrid 99% sure.. :S

then he hasnt a clue what he's talking about lol

was he talking about a K04-01? not much point if he is?

wait a minute a k04 1.8t remaps to a little over 260 anyways, a ko4 hybrid is a bit more again, i think he is either confused or trying to pull a fast one, ko3 hybrid would be the power hes suggesting i think.

oh and if he did mean k03s hybrid and only got you 250 i would be very dissapointed :giggle:

people have been known to run this kit to 290+bhp

I just phoned him, he said it is KO3/KO4 hybrid which fits straight on, only the inlet is different.

I have asked him to lower the power to 240-250 bhp so I don`t have to upgrade the gearbox, clutch and everything else which is necessary when the setup is over 250 bhp+.

Btw; He is the No.1 tuner in eastern Europe and I don`t think he wants to screw me over... :)
