Tinker day

Featured Replies

Got the first MOT coming up for the Fabia, and would like to go into it with as much nailed down as possible before finding any nasty surprises come MOT time...

...Was wondering if anyone fancied helping me out with going through the Haynes manual for the maintenance tasks and the MOT check chapter?

Got a small list of things that need doing so far, mainly routine maintenance at the moment - initial raft of parts will be incoming on/around payday, so this will be back end of June. MOT comes up early July :S

Let me know either way - the help would be much appreciated considering i've just moved and don't have access to half the tools required!

The plan is to get the car properly roadworthy before tidying up anything else - it was a little tatty when I picked it up.

So far the list of things that need sorting:

Replace rear wiper arm and blade - old one had snapped due to previous owner trying to use it whilst frozen against screen... Also caused fuse to blow which has since been replaced...

Replace rear numberplate bulb

Standard service - check/replace:

Air filter

Oil

Oil filter

Spark plugs

pollen filter

gearbox oil

brake fluid

power steering fluid

Further items:

Clean throttle body

Replace map sensor (?) - Seems that lumpy idle can be a symptom of many problems, so thought i'd just hit them all at once.

Replace thermostat

MOT check chapter - at which point i'll probably have another list of things as long as my arm to replace/fix hahaha!

If anyone has access to a VAG com it would be very helpful also...

In exchange you will have much gratitude, a free meal, as much tea as you can drink, and an opportunity for a second pair of hands to help you tinker yourself ;)

It might help if you mention where you live. ;):dull:

Y'know.... Good point :S

Thought my profile mentioned i'm in Sheffield/Rotherham area... D'oh!

I'd be up for helping you out some time. Just not sure when I would have the chance that's the only thing!

I'm only up the road in York and could combine it with a visit to family in the general area perhaps.

Sounds good to me...

Ideally any time before the 2nd July would be great - but if that's not possible I might have to trawl through the Haynes MOT check manual myself, take it in and see what it comes back with I guess.
