Desiel pump repair

Featured Replies

Hi,

My car details:

KMS run: 75000

Model: Octavia 1.9TDI

RPM at idle is 900RPM to 920RPM, some times goes little low say 800RPM

I noticed desiel leaking out of desiel pump and took it to skoda authorized service center. They told it is only possible to replace the pump but not repair the leak which will cost Rs 130000 in India.

Hence I decided to get the repair done with Bosch authorized service center. They got the work done. I also got just the timing belt changed except water pump.

After replacing the repaired desiel pump back into the car, I found there is "lot of vibration" in the car during idle mode as we as during driving.

Are there any settings in the desiel pump that needs to be down?

I got the air filter replaced, fuel filter is in good condition, got the air removal done which was present in the desiel flow.

Also I notice smoke from the exhaust at low speeds say 1000ROM-1300RPM

Please advice what needs to be checked in this regard.

Thanks and Regards,

Javeed

It sounds like the car is (still?) over-fuelling at low revs.

Presuming Indian market TDis are like European market ones, a competent diesel engine tuner would be able to correct this (and find you better power and economy at the same time).

That said, I would expect a correctly rebuilt pump to be set up for the application.

Hi,

Thanks for your inputs.

Is VAS com required for checking the pump timing? and it be corrected via this software?

I'll get this check done, thanks for your valuable inputs.

One question: Could it be result of incorrect timing after replacing the timing belt?

Since I got two things done at same time, I'm unable to decide which is causing the problems.?

Regards,

Javeed

If we're suspecting the fuel timing is out as a result of the belt change, it's going to be a full tooth out. Checking this and correcting it it is a job for a trusted expert mechanic, not just a software change. It is possible to adjust the fuel timing in software with good effects as well though.

Hi Javeed, I m in bombay and have done some work on my pump also. seems to me you have 2 problems,[1] Injection quantity incorrect hence your car smokes at low revs and idles between 920-900 and 8 something. and[2] Your pump timing is out of spec. Two approaches, one with a Vag-Com cable[expensive initially but worth it in the long run if you fiddle with your car] along with the Ross-tech program or with the dealers equipment and second adjust it with out the cable.Go thru these two links and both your problems will be solved...http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=240450&highlight=revisited...http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=949613... Contact me if you still have a problem[ PM] cya. which city are you in?

I had the diesel pump leak problem in my Octavia 1.9TDI. They replaced the packing kit and rotor. Rs.10500/- for pump service and Rs.2500/- for the mechanic. They said for a few days there will be jerking in low speeds especially while driving in traffic moving inch by inch, you could feel the vibration. It didn't arrest after a few days. Mechanic advanced tge timing..not fixed. Restored to old timing. Adjusted fuel flow..it would start immediately and better mileage but it sounded like tractor. Increased fuel flow...its like F1 race car..it will climb a bridge in 5th gear without acceleration.Earlier setting, pick up was bad...it wont even go througha bump or speed breaker without much acceleration. Less learnt is that the local mechanic make adjustments based on experience. Better approach a service centre where they have VCDS to adjust and check the values using the VCDS software. I used STP diesel injector cleaners which made the engine smooth and reduced noise.
