Leaking sun roof ?

Hmm well I have no drains at all near the hinges. Not one. Baffled now. I did read somewhere the 'new' design would placement drains down to the wheel arches. Might have to wait until I see IainM1970 's car for a comparison.

My car - build week 4/2012 - has no drains visible at all near the hinges. I think you are absolutely right in believing the sunroof now drains down to the wheel arches.

Good luck in getting your problem sorted.

An April 2010 build here and I have the rubber drain plugs around the boot hinge area - never had a problem with mine however and that includes using the karcher directly around it and leaving the hose running over it after the original post on a leaking sunroof. It's strange how some do it and how some don't and also how Dom has the redesigned drainage on his Yeti but still suffers from the problem. :-(

A June 2011 build here, I have blanking plugs near the tailgate hinges where the drains were situated on the earlier cars - as above, never had a problem (so far any way) :whew:

...so there are currently three different setups to cover the drainage of the sunroof area? Mine ie the original 'flappy' rubber plugs by the boot hinges, blanking plugs as above (that's a new one on me btw), presumably at the change over point of moving from my setup to the rerouting of the drainage channels to the rear wheel arch and then nothing at the boot area whatsoever, not even blanking plugs (presumably as the rerouting to the rear arches is final and changes have been made at the factory to remove trace of the original drain plugs)??

correct, and according to my dealer today, the earlier ones did not have the pop up mesh wind deflector either.

I'm astonished at that as I've been in two of the first Yeti's that had the panoramic roof option in the UK and they most definitely had the exact same design as my Yeti - bug catcher and all!

I'm sorry but that is a total lie from the dealer in my book. Drive at any speed with the roof open and then with a free hand press the deflector down. The resulting wind buffeting is horrendous and there is NO WAY a sunroof will EVER be fitted without one of these deflectors. They simply do not work without a deflector.

As to the drains I have a Nov 2010 Yeti and have (as FocusZtec) the drains near the hinges with a slit in them. No reported problems thus far. Touching wood though.

Well that's my Yeti in to the dealer for a good check. The rain has been pouring all night and this morning with more forecast so at least they don't have to mess about with a hose to recreate the leak!

And ironically having handed in a 2 WD Yeti they gave me a 4x4 Octavia as a courtesy car :sun:

well now that was quick...got an email five hours after dropping the car off to confirm the leak had been found. Front drain on the sunroof not working properly so the water is running down the A pillar and in to the footwell. Top marks West End Garage.

Not going to get it back for a while though as they need to replace all the carpets and soundproofing. So time to test and enjoy the 4x4 Octavia!

Excellent service from WE garage. Well done!

Good news. Glad it was so easily found. :whew:

with the amount of rain falling from the sky today I'm not at all surprised it was easy to find :giggle:

Great news, Domnhall - just what we all need to hear from you! And let us hope that it is all completely normal when you've finished playing with the Octy!

I am sure it will be. Interesting to compare the way my problem has been handled compared with the treatment someone else on here got recently when they had a leaky roof and condensation.

Well, it's exactly what we have come to expect from WEG! Good service.

Is it safe to order a sunroof on a new Yeti? Is the leaking-problem solved now in a good way?

I've had my sunroof sunce Nov 2010 and have not had a single issue... Touch wood I suppose and this is with a roof of the previous design - I don't have the new gutters. So I see no reason not to get the roof. It is AMAZING. Really brightens up a car especially with the all black interior I have.

As Johann states, mines an april 2010 build of the first design and it's never caused any issue whatsoever. It's without doubt the best option I specced (and I think I specced all except the tow bar!) allowing the interior to bask in natural light, even when closed. It gets used any day it's not raining and it's spent the last three weeks in 40 degree heat; open it for a tan, close it and put the blind across for a cool interior, it's brilliant IMO.

I wouldn't worry about leaking being an issue. It is a great (although slightly expensive) option.

The only reason I didn't spec the sunroof was concerns over things falling on the roof during offroading, which I've had a fair number of times in previous Land Rovers. But my wife has the sunroof on her Yeti and it is very, very nice.
