Picked up new octy 1.4 tsi dsg - impressions

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just wanted to share the good news with everyone. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I picked up the new car last week - Octavia Elegance Estate 1.4 tsi dsg. Picked it up from Marlborough Skoda in London. Car purchased via DTD - without extras it was just over 14k so very good price. I am very impressed with the car - especially because I did not have a test drive .... Anyway, first impressions:

1. very well build

2. very spacious

3. excellent handling

4. nice standard spec

5. very dynamic when needed

6. quiet and comfortable

I only put 500 miles on it but so far I realised that in order to have good mpg I need to :

1. put better petrol in (tried BP ultimate 97)

2. drive the car in a peculiar way - not slowly but more dynamicly - quickly to desired speed and gently maintain it - then the mpg improves noticably

If I am gentle on the trottle from the beginning and the car pickes up speed slowly then mpg dropes down. Now I can drive in a spirited manner and still have good mpg!! emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

One thing is very disappointing though - the car has so many electronic gadgets and settings that now I need to study the manual to learn how to use it all... emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I heard that I can lower the mirrors when reversing or change the way you open the doors with the remote and so on... I am sure there is a post here somwhere about it ....emoticon-0124-worried.gif

I wanted to post pictures but I am not really sure how to so I will try again later

As you haven't ordered any extras, you won't have maxidot which means changes to the way the doors open etc has to be done by the dealer or someone with VCDS.

I don't think you'll be able to do the mirror trick either as I'm failry sure that only works with the electrically folding mirrors or the electrically adjustable seat options

P.S. Glad you like the car though, I do think that 1.4 engine is a cracking engine

Agreed 100% - best of all world's with good responsive performance, good economy, low emissions and excellent refinement.

(That's the 1.4 TSi - not to be confused with the old 1.4 normally aspirated unit.)

:giggle: I just realised that it was not clear - price was just over 14k without extras but I added a few so in the end it was 15.2k

I added curtain airbags, metallic paint, MFSW with padles and maxidot, spare wheel, rugs and sunset privacy glass.

Since I have maxidot I would have thought I could change the settings myself.

Ah - I forgot to add that I love the sound of engine when reved hard in sport mode! :D

Hey,

tried your link. Didn't work. Perhaps will need to set the viewing policy of your album to public rather than private?

Thanks. I will have a look at home - i have a webfilter at work :S

Works for me on my Android phone. PC is off so can't check on there.

Looks nice in that colour. Much less in your face than the black I chose.

Ok, last try with the pictures- I do not know why I cannot just paste it here.... emoticon-0120-doh.gif

So I made the album public and here is the direct link

I hope it will work. As for the colour - it is satin grey. I am really glad I chose it. It looks great in the flesh and changes colour depending on the lighting.

I took the pics with my htc phone so they do not give it justice.

anyway, I took it for another spin today and as usual it was fantastic. Engine is running in nicely it seems.

Cheers mates.

Beautiful pictures, beautiful color (I always have liked red cars :giggle: )

Yeah, was going to say what a choice...shall we take the Ferrari or the Skoda ! Choices, choices....

;) Yes, yes.... that red car is the only thing spoiling the joy. But I always tell myself that mine is new and that ferarri is old... works so far!
