2.5 tdi fuel consumption on autobahn

Featured Replies

hi people. Just come back from a trip to Belgrade to see some friends in my 2.5 tdi, and I must admit I did unleash quite regularly the power it had to offer, at times 100-125 mph on a regular basis (speed limits permitting). Certain sections of the German autobahn are just begging for speed, and it feels safe with no pot holes, and ample warning is given when approaching bridge expansion gaps so you can back off the throttle in time. Hungary is even crazier, particularly south from Budapest, where the flat planes mean that most of the time you are just going in a straight line, no hills there to circumnavigate, low friction road surface with a very impressive fuel consumption at high speed (I got more than 400 miles on the tank with an aggressive driving style 100-125 all the way, but no braking). In Serbian mountains (B roads) which were v e r y twisty, it was a different story, I regularly had to use the tiptronic manual switch function as the gearbox was regularly getting confused what gear it wanted to be in, and in certain sections I was averaging under 15 mpg, but by then we were at 1000m altitude!

My overall trip fuel consumption over more than 3000 miles was 38.3 mpg. This was worked out from actual fuel quantities that have gone into the tank. The car was fully laden too. Impressive mpg I think considering the circumstances. Currently on the continent diesel equates to between 98p and 1.07p a litre FYI.

Wow that is good fuel consumption. Well thats good compared to what I get but then I usually drive my car with a lead foot. I can get 400 miles out of a tank if I ignore the refill now warning at 40 miles range. :D

Souneded like a good trip
