Upcoming improvements to Octavia road noise insulation?

Featured Replies

I bought my first Mk11 Octavia in 2006, 2.0 Auto petrol Estate and loved it apart from road noise intrusion, especially if the back seats were down. I fitted it with Toyo T1R tyres and some stick on heavy damping pads in the boot and under rear seat both helped quite a bit but with most VW cars in the normal price ranges they do not seem over-concerned about a bit of road noise. My first reaction when I read this thread was that why would Skoda bother now.... Mk 11 started life in 2005 and they must have noticed complaints about road noise years ago ! Unless of course the new quieter diesels have meant people notice other noises now. In the end I solved the problem completely when I acquired my current Skoda a 2.0 Petrol vrs.... the exhaust makes a lovely enthusiastic bark when the engine is stirred and I listen to that instead.

I'm looking to buy a Octavia Scout TDI and have come across a rumour I would like to know if anyone else have heard.

When I talked informally to a former Skoda sales person (who now are selling VW, but still recommended me to go for the Scout :-)) he told me that starting from production week 43 there will be improvements to the Octavia when it comes to sound insulation. With those improvements the road noice in the Octavia would drop to the same level as in e.g. a VW Passat. Road noice is obviously still an issue with Octavia, and improvements like this could be worth waiting for ...

Hi,

I have ordered new octavia few months ago and manufacturing in on week 35.... posted directly to skoda factory to Zeman Premysl and he told that these are "rumors". There will not be any sound installation/improvements in chassis A5 or A6. So this improvemant has to be done everyone it self....if wants ;)

Has anyone get any better reply from factory??? Any real improvements??

You might not be able to delay your order without incurring significant delay - if your model is earmarked for a particular slot (mine is a 4x4 due production in week 41) you might have to wait a particulalry long time for that model to have another run on the line. The 4x4 Est may only be on the line from week 38 to week 42. If I were to delay to my order to post-week 45 it could be several months before a 4x4 Est line starts up again.

I ordered my scout a couple of months ago and was told wk 35 then I asked for silver rails to be added to order on Friday and it changed to wk 36

Latest from Skoda UK regarding sound improvements;

"we have not received any information from the Factory to advise that there is any change in sound proofing on the Ocativa from week 45 onward."

Ah well, back to the ''Dynamat'' then...
