Defective Rear Parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hi,

I took delivery of a new FL Octavia TDI CR VRS last month and yesterday the sensors packed up.

I checked the rear and discovered that one of the sensors fitted to the rear bumper was missing and

suspected someone had removed it. I had a conversation with a VW mechanic as the local Skoda people

seemed to know little about the system and he suggested the sensor had become detached from the bumper

and had probably fallen inside the bumper. If this is the case it is a warranty issue, which would be comforting as

the bumper will have to be removed, however if it is not it could be costly.

Has anyone else had a similar problem please?

Hi,

I popped one inside the bumper by accident with my knee :giggle: really should be more careful! The sticky pads that hold it in place aren't very tacky to be honest, they only take someone to lightly lean against one and it'll disappear inside.

Mine was one of the middle 2 so bumper didnt need to come off, just get down on your bum behind the car and reach up under the bumper (there's an access hole) and feel for the wiring, trace it to the sensor and you'll feel the end of it and 2 sticky plastic lugs either side, and just pop it back into place.

If its one of the outer edge ones i reckon i would have a go reaching it through that hole. Or maybe try fishing it through from the mounting hole with some blu-tack on a rod -- just dont use anything metalic that might scratch the painted finish of the front of the sensor

Hope this helps

Many thanks for your response. I have been unable to check anything myself previously ,as I have just had an operation on my hand, however, coincidentally, today

I was able to crawl under the car and could feel the sensor. I cannot follow your advice yet as I am still one handed but will do so directly the plaster

is removed. Thanks once again
