Don't Trust the Skoda Brochure

Featured Replies

I bought a V 6 Superb in May 2010 - ordered Feb 2010 - which I expected to have hill hold control, which I particularly wanted as I tow a caravan. The brochure current when I ordered the car and the current one ( and the web site ) all shoe hill hold control to be standard on the V 6

When I took the car to the garage as the hill hold control was not working I was told it was not fitted to my car - Taking this up with Skoda UK they say there is an error in the brochure and it is not standard !!!

Not at all happy - it is not possible to retro fit and I would have added it as an extra ( only £105 ) if I had known it was not standard - all Skoda UK are prepared to say is sorry the brochure is wrong

You're not the only one!

Same thing with the rear disc brakes on Fabia DSG, another error in the brochure.

Are you saying James that the 1.2TSI DSG doesn't have rear disc brakes??

This is not the first time there has been a problem on the Superb specification in the brochure. There were problems about spare wheels some time ago.

When I ordered my Superb Elegance back in July 09, the current brochure gave an option of a space saver or a full size spare wheel. I particularly wanted a full size spare wheel so duly ordered one at the quoted cost. I was later told that Skoda would only supply a space saver wheel as the full size wheel was not available on the Elegance model. The dealer, Birchwood Skoda of Eastbourne, honoured my order and subsequently supplied the car with a full size spare wheel, bearing the additional costs themselves.

It looks like the Skoda brochures are full of errors. Not just the Superb. Their were loads of confusion regarding the Daylight Running Lights on my soon to be delivered Scout. The new brochure says :

LED daylight running lights, Auto dimming rear

view mirror, light assistant and rain sensor £242.55 £42.45 £285.00

The Scout is supposed to have Auto dimming rear view mirror, light assistant and rain sensor as standard.

It looks like the DRL's may turn out to be a £130 option. Just that small error sparked loads of emails, phone calls and started threads on forums = loads of wasted time and expense.

This will be my 4th Skoda but FFS how hard is it to get a Brochure right ? Not only that but as has been said the Brochures are still online with the mistakes !!!

If the Brochure says one thing I would argue the brochure forms the contract and that court action (or the threat of) may help get what you originally ordered. It may well fall within small claims if a judge could be convinced the price difference between selling/trading in the current car and buying new again with the appropriate option fitted would be reasonable. May be worth trying to find a solicitor who is well versed in consumer law. Being taken to court is the only way to ensure they will make the brochures more accurate in future.

In law, a brochure doesn't form part of a contract: it's merely an 'invitation to treat' - i.e. inviting people to ebter into a contract.

Like most brochures, the Skoda website gets out of this sort of thing by the following:

a) The specifications contained in this website are for information purposes only as we cannot confirm the exact specifications of the vehicle. If you require any specific feature you must consult your Škoda Retailer who is regularly updated with any change in specification.

Please check model availability and full specification details with your Škoda Retailer prior to ordering. Neither Škoda nor Škoda Partners can accept contractual responsibility for your reliance on the information contained herein.

But the retailers are NOT regularly updated and in my case didn't have a clue what or if anything was missing! Court decisions usually hinge on whether reasonable steps have been taken and in these cases It seems they haven't!
