Preferred is 5w30 but sometimes the engine may get a little noisy when hot as I believe it thins out, so I use the alternative 10w40 which copes better with the heat......please correct me if I`m wrong.

.

I use halfords 10 40 semi synth, change every 5k miles. Also give the breather system a clean at every oil change, you would be amazed how much it improves oil consumption.

Castrol magnitex 10 40 everytime or silkolene, Theres no substitutes.

You can get a 5w-30 as Castrol Edge 5w-30 (not the Magnatec 5w-30, that's for Ford) or Mobil1 ESP 5w-30 or 0w-40 from ASDA for £32 for 5 l. It depends on the mileage, if it has a lot get thicker one Xw-40, if not you can get Xw-30 full synthetic. Should have VW 502.00 or 504.00 on it.

Hi everyone!Last year i bought a Skoda Fabia 1.4 16v Elegance. A few days after i bought it i did, wel i paid someone(it's my first car) to do the oil change, the air filtrer and the oil filter. The  recomended oil was , Mobil Super 3000 X1 5w40 full syntethic. The car was in his 156 000 km. After 8 mounths and aprox. 1500 km-ers mainly driven in the city, during a longer trip suddenly the oil warning light pop's up. I stopped at the firs willage and i checked the oil level and i was quite surprized to see that the oil level it was on the minimum. I didnt know what to do, just to buy some oil and pour in. the problem was that i didn't found any oil than some universal oil which can be used for both, petrol and diesel engine, some high endurance 15w40 oil. And i poredin about 2 liters. After reading the owners manual i saw that is normal to have an oil consumption   about 0,5 liter on 1000 km. I am quite worried because i paid for this car and i dont know if i made the right decision picking up this one.

And i'm also puzzled because i talked to other skoda fabia owners within my area and only one told me that he had the same problem back a while ago and he took the car to garrage and they did some kind of engeine "segmentation" something to do with some rings, excuse my lack of knowlege regarding this topic.

Yesterday i took another trip about 500 km and i saw that the oil is again almost on minimum and after my math i assume the oil consuption was about almsot 1 liter . The thing is that the car  has power i didn't notice any plus fuel consumtion.

My question is: can i drive it with this oil 15w40, because according to the owners manual it's a risk of engine damage...., I think, maybe in brand new cars.

It is normal this oil consumtion for a car this old, in his 13 year?

Thank you in advance!

Why waste money on that?

Being naturally aspirated (non-turbo) it won't make any difference to power at all. Some contain more detergents so it would run better if you'd previous used cheap supermarket fuels. However if you use premium fuels (Shell, Esso, BP, etc) there won't be much any difference, if any.

Well, I started feeding my wife's 2003MY Polo 9N 1.4SE 75PS with V-Power about a year ago - mainly to try to clean it out, the difference in drivability is quite significant - I did not expect that from this engine as it is set up to use at best, 95 Octane. Fuel economy has not changed, but the car is far better/easier to drive.

I am sure that your car will have an engine type code beginning with A, ie A** a lot of these VAG petrol engines do drink a lot of oil, maybe even so much that the engine will suffer from pinking/pinging/knocking as the oil will change the effective Octane rating of the fuel, another reason to use 98 Octane fuel.

The rings that were mentioned will be the engine's piston rings.
