Auto lights coming on @ speed

Featured Replies

With Autolights can the feature of the Headlights coming on at around 100 be disabled.

I know this will get the usual dont drive that fast posts but Im just asking out of interest ;)

no mate, i dont think so - its a safety feature on the cars.. watch out if your lights come on and plod see you - they know instantly what speeds youve been doing!!

Just have your lights on all the time and not in auto then it doesn't matter!

They don't come on if they are in the off position.

I'd be more interested to know if there's any way of changing the speed at which they come on ... I think they click in at 85 or 90 (perhaps 140kph?) or something, which is clearly far too fast for most countries unless you really dislike your licence. I've never heard of this being software-selectable to a lower speed, though.

Anyone know?

Automatic light control*

Motorway lights

If the automatic light control* has been switched on and the vehicle speed is over 140 km/h for at least 10 seconds, the side lights and low beam are switched on automatically. If the vehicle speed is below 65 km/h for at least 2 minutes, the lights are switched off.

Thanks

So, that confirms what the manual says - but is it changeable at all, does anyone know? Perhaps in the inner, deepest, darkest corners of VCDS?

as mentioned before, one can select the light switch to OFF, or even change the switch to one w/o AUTO features.

Just played with the VCDS, Automatic Light controller (49) is not available

I'll try again, then, and then just surrender.

I know you can turn them on or off - my question was whether you can change the *speed* at which they activate, since 140kph is way above the realistic speed on nearly any road in any country, let alone the speed limit. Unless you're on an unrestricted bit of autobahn, you're 20-30kph above most European limits.

So, not the function - the speed at which it operates.

I found in the latest VCDS that motorway lights can be disabled.

So you can leave your lights on "Auto" but when you break 90mph the lights remain off.

Nothing about adapting the speed though!
