It finally went bang!

Featured Replies

:giggle: wel some of you may know i have been waiting for a while for my turbo to give up the go and well .....................it did spectacually lol, i had been driving rather fast on a private road, well in to 3 figures and any way i slowed down towards the end of the road to cool down before i stopped, i cruised for a while ie 2-3 min any way come to a stop to have a talk and the went to go again, 1st gear no bother 2nd gear wooosh ......................bang sounded like blowing a boost hose off so i pulled in opened the bonnet only to see it wasnt the hoses and there was a awful spinning noise the a catching noise so i knocked it off and checked it over and then got towed home. within the hour i had found two parts of the compressor wheel and the rest well gone somewhere lol, i try to see the funny side of it as there is no point windging about it with in 12 hours i have got a pd 150 brand new for 400 notes off a friend boxed and every thing, its now fitted and awaiting a paddle clutch and then i am off to jabbasport to hopfully exceed the 200 margin any way i will get pics up tomorro night just thought id let you all know it has been an exciting week end :giggle::thumbup:

Not another one you seem very happy about it :giggle:

What mileage is it??

Would the car still be driveable if the turbo popped say it happend on a motorway and you want to get of at the next junction, would it be safe to do so or is it recommended to pull over and switch off instantly?

You probably could limp it. :)

At least you were prepared and the turbo did give some warning unlike mine which just popped at max chat without any clues.....

lol me personally i would not liike to risk any debree going in to the cylinders, i am pleased i have been waiting for an excuse to put either a hybrid or just a 150 turbo so yea i cant say i really upset cos i am not lol its got 81000 ,30000 of them have been running at 175bhp and 340ft so its done fairly well imo :smirk:

Would it be a faulty batch of turbos, or is it just the higher mileage turbos that fail?

Im on this forum quite alot and from reading up theres been reports of a turbo letting go very frequently thats just from forum members, there must be a reason behind it surely?? just seems like expense for nothing, the point of buying a diesel is to save some pennys what ever we are saving is going on turbo repairs, obviously the next one lasts for a good few thousand miles, but is it normal for a turbo to fail seems very common.

Remap could be one reason of failure, but even the standard fabias let go just curious to understand why they let go so often..

Thanks

i dont think its due to faulty turbos or wear i will be honest my car has had some stick over the times now and then so i think it all depends on how you drive as to how the out come is written thats my view like but thats not to say if you drive sensable all the time that they will last for ever :giggle:

Where did you find the bits of compressor wheel at ? were they stuck in the IC or something ?

Sounds like you havent wasted any time in getting it sorted anyways :D

Hopefully I'll be at the july meet and have a google at your car :D
