Rocker Cover Gasket Leaking?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Skokda Octavia 1990 SLXi, and I have an oil leak, checked the usual places including sump and plug and they all look ok, leak is dripping from nearside of engine, I have had a look at the rocker cover gasket seems to be the cause, well it is as far as I can see, it is completely soaked in oil and the engine is very wet around where the rocker gasket is, I am wondering whether it has perished and is just running down the engine.

Is this a plausable place for oil leakage and would anyone know if this is a job I can do at home or I need to take it into the garage to get it changed?

Thanks

Jon

I had a leak from the rocker cover gasket on my 1.8T and it was running all down the back of the engine.

I would've thought you could do it at home, just get a Haynes manual so you know how tight to torque the rocker cover bolts up to once you've fitted the new gasket.

Ah cheers mate,

I will have a look at the manual, the gasket I can get at a fairly good price, might need to buy a torque wrench though :)

Jon

Check the bolt torques before buying the new gasket; I've had or worked on 3 cars where the problem was loose cover bolts, and was cured by re-torqueing.

Cheers mate, I will check the torques and see if thats the issue :)

Thanks

Jon
