ventilation pong

Featured Replies

I have a ventilation pong. It's not there with the AC on and recirculation, just the normal ventilation on 2. It's less noticeable on 3&4. It's only been there since a friend of mine took her shoes off in the car when I had AC and recirc on Sunday. It was there yesterday so I checked and cleaned the pollen filter, but today (Tuesday) it was still present every time I switched the AC+recirc off and went to normal ventilation. Presumably I'll have to do the anti bacterial spray thing to get rid, but where is it actually coming from, if it's not present when the AC is on, with or without recirculation?

sounds like the usual Aircon mouldy smell problem that effects all cars once in a while.

Those anti bacterial aircon spray things will help reduce those smells.

The best one I've found off the shelf is one they sell in EuroCarparts, it's made by NormFest Viro

Spray it down into the air vents inside the cabin, let it work for 15mins then turn on the aircon and re-circ.

This one seems to work and it's smell killing lasts by far the longest, compared to those stupid spray bomb ones that they sell in Halford for £10 a can.

Probably worth changing the pollen filter too if it's coming up to 12months old. They are only about £10 from the dealers

How do you change the filter? My friend was dying yesterday with his hay fever, then I was dying because of the heat.

Under the dash passenger side between glove box and stereo there's a long piece of plastic with 2 slidey bits in. Slide those (I think inwards to each other) then the whole unit with the filter pulls straight downwards. The air filter then pushes out and the new one pushes in. The new one will have an arrow to denote which way the air should flow, this should point towards the drivers side. When you remove the bits try and remember which way around they go as it's easy to get them all mixed up.

Brilliant anewman, I shall order a new one and get on with fitting it. All for the benefit of my friend really :giggle:
