Oil Filter

Featured Replies

Had a quick look under the bonnet but couldn't see an oil filter. I understand its a paper filter. Where does it hide? Any tips about oil and filter change would be appreciated.

05 Superb Elegance V6 2.5TDI Second oil change from new now 38,000 miles on clock.

Thanks

Wherever the oil filter is on the V6 (I don't have one), if you leave the oil and filter for 18k miles between changes, the engine won't last long.

Either take the covers off and have a good look, or find a Haynes manual for a VW/Audi branded vehicle with the same engine.

rotodiesel.

I don't care what VAG say about "long life" servicing, it's for the benefit of fleet buyers who sell their cars before there's trouble. The oil should be changed every 10 to 12k miles or 1 year whichever is the sooner. 38k miles with only two changes in over 5 years is asking for trouble in my opinion.

Hi

Its on variable service with long life oil so a change has not been requested from the engine managment system. I'm expecting the request soon.

Yes at the weekend I will have the time to do the job and find the oil filter location.

Thanks

It's under the large engine cover that sits over the engine, carefully put your hands under the cover and lift to remove, it is located on 4 'mushroom' type lugs that locate into rubber boots on the cover.

The filter is at the front of the V just behind the injection pump, you'll need a 30mm (I think) socket to remove the cover

If it has a nut on it bigger than you have and it's accessable, take your belt off and loop it over and use that to break the seal, hth.
