Fabia II 1.9 tdi 105 estate.

Featured Replies

Hi all

This is my first ever post on Briskoda!! I currently have an Octavia 1.9Tdi PD 105bhp Ambientine on a 05 54 plate with 68K. I am thinking about chopping it in for a Fabia II with the same engine.

I love the car and the engine but dont really need the space so much these days!!

Would the Fabia estate be a good choice performance wise etc? On do you owners think the 1.4Tdi is sufficent? Or just wait for one of the new CR engines?

Welcome threadbear. This is very much a personal choice thing. Whichever you buy you won't be disappointed. I set out to buy the Fabia 2 1.9TDI only to find the performance was, for us, a bit more than we needed. i'm no fuddy duddy either, I ride a 1000cc motorcycle and like a bit of oomph! The 1.4TDI 80hp with the 3 cylinder motor was more than enough! As a bonus it is cheaper to insure and the road tax has gone down to £30 per year! Fuel consumption is amazing too. In reality, the 1.9TDI isn't too far behind the 1.4TDI in everyday consumption, but the 1.4TDI will easily trounce the 1.9 if you are prepared to stick under 70mph with 70mpg being easily attainable on a run. With regard to the new cr motors...they are out now in the new Fabs and by all accounts are amazing...and a little more refined than the earlier motors. Points I don't like about the new cr motors...oil pump driven by a rubber band, and the cr pump lubed by diesel fuel. Both potentially weak areas in my book. But we must wait and see how reliable they are. I'm still pleased I have a PD engine which is virtually indestructable.

I think you should perhaps drive both engines mate, I could have had a 1.9, but there was very little in it. And i was 19 at the time so insurance was also in consideration. Plus the 1.4tdi remaps wonderfully :smirk::thumbup:

The 1.4 is effectively 3/4 of the 1.9 - so many (most in fact) of the parts are the same - its just 25% less powerful.

I considered the 1.4 for my wife, but she wanted a bit more performance so got a 1.9tdi in the end, which we have had remapped to about 130bhp. It goes very well indeed and economy is unchanged. Acceleration in 3rd gear is very brisk indeed and makes for easy and safe overtaking.

The CR engines are very good, but bear in mind that they are a quantum leap in technology and can be extremely expensive to repair outside of warranty. The PD is rather more basic, tried-and-test technology.

If you buy new you won't be able to get a 1.4 or 1.9 (unless it's in the dealer's existing stock in which case it won't have the recent facelift).

If the facelift doesn' tbother you,y ou might therefore get a good deal on any 1.9/14s still in stock.

the 1.6 105 will of course feel more powerful in the lighter Fabia than in your Octavia, so the slightly cheaper 90 bhp version may be the one to go for: it still has 170 lbs torque so probably doesn't lag far behind in real life.

He might be looking for S/hand car?

Thanks Guys for your informative reply! I am going to have a look at a CR Tdi 90 and try one of those out and what a dealer can come up with deal wise. Otherwise I will go for a nearly new Fabia estate and try both oil burners.

good luck with this. worth noting that with the incentives available on new cars eg 'VAT free' on Fabias, we are in the odd stuation that new cars can be better deals than nearly new ones so if you dogo nearly new make sure you the second hand price reflects the discount you'd get on a new one as well as the reduction you'd get for second hand
