Our Monster has landed!

Featured Replies

Despite losing two trusted steeds, our new monster arrived on Wednesday to replace them. Was very sad to see the Mini go :( - it was really fun to drive, whilst the Fabia was a good workhorse but not so much fun. The monster :) on the other hand......

Picked it up Wednesday lunchtime (we are on leave this week which is good timing!) and spent the afternoon driving around town, in the country and up the motorway. We've been out all day today too, sampling A roads, B roads, town driving and a bit off road on a ten mile forest drive through New Galloway Forest. I still have the grin on my face!

Its an amazing beast. Handles nearly as well as the Mini. The engine is amazing, with strong performance at all ranges. So far we have averaged 48mpg across these roads etc which is as good as the fabia. The spec on the SE models is superb and the flexibility of the car for our use is unsurpassed. Even the dog likes it!

I've posted some piccies (its got a bit dirty though since yesterday  ) from our trip through New Galloway Forest. If your ever in the New Galloway area of Dumfriesshire try the forest drive (it costs £2) but goes through stunning scenery and you can stop and paddle / swim etc in the river half way through.

The Monster is an amazing car!

Nice pics and nice to see another beast born in the UK !! Seems to be a run of a few black ones lately ?

Glad all positive so far.

:)

Welcome.

Noticed you have a towbar, is it fixed or detachable and what make is it please? It doesn't look like a Westfalia.

Also looks like single 7 pin electrics.

Did you pay for the towbar prep when you bought the car?

Because of the varying quotes/charges there is a lot of interest on this forum (just do a search on towbars).

thanks

tom

Very nice looking monster :-)

GREAT SM Mike :D

GREAT SM Mike :D

Like the pics. I'm just down the road at DG7 Bridge Of Dee. Would be interested on feedback of car and dealer if possible. E mail me if you think that is more appropriate.

Hi Tom

I'm a bit of a towbar virgin and when we ordered the car we asked for a towbar to be fitted as we have access to a good sized trailer and living in the sticks wanted to be able to pick things up (like timber and roofing for the new log store) and take the stuff we can't burn in the stove or re-use to the tip! It was suggested that a dealer fit towbar would be cheaper so thats what we opted for. Not sure of the make, but I do know it is for trailers only as we are highly unlikely to ever get a caravan (I need my luxuries I'm afraid!). Having said that I suppose it affects re-sale, but we will hopefully keep the monster until it gives up the ghost so to speak.

We didn't opt for towbar prep. Should we have done? I think the towbar was something like £250 fitted. Not sure of the make but will check. Its a fixed one too. I've just collected the trailer tonight and it all seems to work fine so far.

I hope that answers your question?

Mike

Hi Loskie

You are very lucky - the Bridge of Dee area is beautiful and not far from where we were today. We did the forest drive from Clatteringshaws Loch to Bennan which was great fun and somewhere we will definitely return to soon.We stay in DG11 between Lockerbie & Langholm but know most of Dumfriesshire as I tend to have projects across the region.

The car is superb. I would echo those comments made by others elsewhere on this site. There's only two of us and we wanted something that was comfortable for us to commute (over 100 miles some days); something that would accommodate the dog and luggage etc; something that would accommodate the extended family when we all go away on holiday; something that would cope with the appalling road conditions around here (the main reason for looking at the Yeti in the first place); something that would generally be flexible for large and bulky items; something that was relatively economical; and finally and most important was that it had to look and feel fun in order to be a good replacement for the Mini.

We don't really drive off road but have been stuck the last two winters when the roads don't get ploughed (or gritted) and 4WD wasn't as important as something with good suspension, chunky wheels/tyres and a bit more ground clearance than a normal car (when the roads get icy round here it builds up, gets rutted and the middle bit gets quite high). The Yeti ticks every box, as do other cars, but for value for money, quality and style the Yeti won hands down against its competition.

We bought it from Telfords in Carlisle. They deserve praise because they kept us informed, always returned calls and were generally true to their word. They also gave us a decent discount on the purchase price. We were told two to three months delivery when we ordered on 12th April. After a couple of weeks were given a build date of week 25. A couple of weeks after that we were advised that the monster build date had been brought forward and was likely ready for delivery before end of June. And despite a delay getting the towbar fitted handover was seamless with the whole process taking about ten weeks. The only snag was that they forgot to order the free fluffy white Yeti we asked for when we bought the monster, but I'm picking that up next week!

We asked for an extended test drive too, which they accommodated, so that we could get a feel for the car on the journeys we would typically do (to work and back) on minor country roads, b roads, motorways and city driving. If you are thinking of buying one I would recommend doing the same to see if the Yeti works for you like it does for us.

All in all I would wholeheartedly recommend getting a Monster, particularly if you live and drive in Dumfriesshire!!

Mike

Nice pictures - the backdrop really sets the Yeti off well.

Your Yeti should feel very at home in that neck of the woods. It looks really nice in Black (which mine is too) but, I must admit, the Yeti is one of the few cars I can honestly say I like the look of in all colours. Muscovado is very nice and I even like the red which is not a colour I've ever really fancied in a car (unless, maybe, it was a Ferrari!).
