Adding 12v socket in the boot?

Featured Replies

Has anyone added a 12v socket into the boot?

Any tips, pics, hints part numbers etc gratefully recieved!

There's one already there on the right hand side? Black flip up cover over it.

Not on the hatch there isn't

Is that exclusively an estate thing?

I will asume the OP has a hatch back model, not an estate like yours. Only standard fit in the estate versions.

It has been done, I'm sure someone will post a link to the thread.

Indeed it is a hatchback, It most certainly doesn't have one fitted at the moment!

Boo  that's not the best :( I'll need to remember us estates are the royalty among vrs's :giggle:

What are the differences between the estate and hatch, i know from a previous thread only the estate gets fold out hooks either side for shopping bags. On the FL hatch do you get:

- brolly box behind the seats?

- the wee door over what used to be the CD changer hole? Or just a hole with no door?

ive got a vrs estate and its got boxes on each side of the boot, on the right for 1st aid and on the left for all the other crap, i also have the shopping hooks and the brolly store (although my brolly is too long for it

The hatch has one fold out hook only on the left side of the boot.

I wanted to fit a power socket into my hatch when I got it and assumed that the wiring loom would be in place and all I would have to do is find the appropriate socket behind the trim and connect to it. I was told (on this forum I think) that that was not the case an VW / Skoda do not fit even an extra mm of wiring when it's not required and that to fit the power socket I would have to do reasonably extensive wiring to get it to run back to join in with the console mounted circuit. I didn't bother in the end.

If the worst came to the worst you could cheaply / easily run a wire from the fusebox at the steering wheel (with the benefit you could choose if the socket would be switched or perm live) under the plastic trim at the side (it all unclips dead easy and goes together again dead easy) into the boot and bring it out wherever you fancy. The only difficult trim is where the rear seatbelt is, and also i struggled with refitting the rear seat bolster at the side (was running a wire in the same place for something else -- camera).

I got it installed additionally into my FL hatch. The guy at Skoda dealership did it for me and charged 50€.

Will post some pictures if you want.

Cheers,

That'd be great, along with any part numbers of the bits they used if you know them?

I'll be popping into Skoda at the weekend to order them.
