Rear Discs Question

Featured Replies

Right just replaced discs and pads on front but the rears need doing.

The front have had put on them, drilled Zimmerman discs and standard pads from gsf (mainly because I bought them just after I got the car thinking the discs were warped but the pads were just glazzed, they sat in the shed for 2 summer and thought I must put them on now as they were starting to pick up the odd bit of rust and thought I might as well use them) would pos get different ones now I have briskoda knowledge at hand but that for another day.

So I need to pick up new set of pad and discs for the rear, OEM from skoda seams over priced as norm so where do I go?

P.S. I wouldn’t mind getting drilled discs on the rear just to balance out the looks but gsf don’t seam to stock the drilled ones for the rears. Any other drilled discs options (obv not worth spending silly money just to make it look nice)

Gsf, the rear discs are £34 each and pad £28 I think so that’s £96 then 10% off so £86.4 all in. (either brembo or Zimmerman OEM discs and tarox pads I think they said)

Ebay, option, Mintex discs and pad box £58

Was prob leaning towards the Mintex just on cost option, unless there no good.

Any way over to you, what should i pick or any 3rd options?

I've got Mintex rear discs and pads on mine and Simon (the guy at the RR day with the yellow VRS) has them on his. No complaints apart from the fact they rust up quicker than OEM ones when it gets wet. The price difference over OEM is pretty good. I personally wouldn't bother with drilled or grooved rear discs, the rear brakes only do something like 20% of the braking so having drilled or grooved rear discs seems like a lot of expense for something which is mainly cosmetic.

No I total agree on your points there, the reason for wanting drilled discs at the back is cosmetics and i would pay a bit extra just so it looks the sames as the front!

That just me liking balance tho.

The other options would be grooved as crnproducts from ebay offered a good price on them with mintex pads. But i think it would just look odd with drilled from and grooved rears tho! and just drilled front and standard rear would prob look best.....

also the rear vrs ones are the same as fabia tdi front ones.. the only differance is the vrs ones have a wider vent but the same total thickness and they are more expensive. i fitted fabia ones to mine. rear pads are the same as the rest of the vw range up to 2006

i fitted grooved discs all round got them as a full set with pads from crnproducts, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SKODA-OCTAVIA-VRS-GROOVED-BRAKE-DISCS-FRONT-REAR-PADS-/360116435905?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53d89cbbc1

cant recommend them enough, the price was good and if you mention there is a discount to be had. give them a bell and tell them what you require i'm sure they will help

they will make them to whatever spec you want. drilled, grooved, drilled n grooved or plain. i went for grooved as drilled discs are weaker and tend to crack, unless there just dimpled and not drilled right threw the disc. give them a bell they are excellent and will cater to your requirements. the link was just for you to get there details
