1.2 Tsi Review and Noise While Turning Right

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just received my 1.2 TSI 77Kw Candy White Roomster. It's really nice car, spacious, the 1.2 Tsi engine responds really good giving me a speed of 120Km/h @ 2.800 revs/min having 5th gear. It also has a type of speed limiter which beeps once when the speed exceeds the limit. I put a limit of 120Km/h. Also the mfd panel suggest the optimal ? gear for more fuel economy. So for first trip of 80Km at an average speed of 107 Km/h it gave me a consumption of 6.7Lt/100Km.

It has 4 a/b, 4 p/w, remote locking, dual rate abs, msr, no esp and ebd, climatic, blues mp3 unit with aux, 4 speakers, rear disks, roof rails, 1955/55/15 Continental Eco Contact2 Premium on steel 6j wheels.

You can open or close all windows by pressing the remote key buttons (open and close). It also unlocks the trunk only by pressing its button and as soon as you close the 5th door (trunk) it locks back automatically.

The car is also equipped with blue and red warning lights for checking the cooland temperature. Blue when the engine is cold, no light when is in optimal temp, red warning light when the cooland's temp is too high.

There are two things i don't like. First the middle rear seat's seat belt. I am 192 cm tall and the seat belt come across my neck (throat or what).

The second is that there is no space for snow chains, emergency triangle and other staff at the trunk.

Now my problem.

The only strange is when i'm turning right (more often) and left from being stopped to 1st gear and as soon as the car begins to move i hear a buzz sound. It sounds to me like the steering wheel pump. The sound stops when the wheels come to their straight ahead position. No other sound, no warning lights, no cracking sound nothing. Should I be worried or not?

Space for warning tri on boot lower entrance panel, mine has ties as well.

Center seat belt, its VAG thing, but you will be driving. only use the lap connection if it causes problems. I would not want to sit in that middle rear seat for a long trip.

The buzzing noise is hydraulics of the steering but should be on both locks. My Peugeot was the same but did lots of miles with this. I would take it into the Dealer and lodge a claim and try and get a new one fitted. Most likely won't but if anything goes bang you have already logged the fault.

Mechanics say that it better never to put the steering to its stops as it puts pressure on the system but if you do a lot of town work its hard to keep to this advice. When you turn hard full lock there is a pressure release mech on the hydraulics and that is what causes the noise. If its only on one side then worry.

My 1.6tdi Scout is quite lock to lock but the diesel noise will cover a lot of sins.

Hope this helps. Isn't there enough room in the middle of the spare if you do some modifications for your snow chains.

Regards

This door key gizzmo.

There is one problem that I find and that is an impatient missus. On the first flash Jo tries to open the door, then give me the look thinking I am being funny.

They should have put a remote engine start, that would have been useful.

You can probably get your dealer to change that so that all doors open on the first click.

it is classed a safety feature the first blip of the key only opens the drivers door, meaning if feeling unsafe or a lone person return to a car in a dark area you can open only the drivers door then get in without any other door being unlocked.

and if the driver then immediately locked the doors with a single blip of the keyfob within about 30 seconds the movement in the car would set off the alarm due to the internal sensors attracting attention as well

the other option is to get in the habit of pressing the keyfob twice just before the" trouble and strife" reaches the car, thus avoiding those angry looks about "don't you want to take me with you :( " unless like me you want to wind them or the kids up now and again O:-)

Mine unlocks all five doors by pressing once the unlock button and locks all doors by pressing once the lock button. It also unlocks the trunk (boot) by pressing once the middle button, or unlocks and slightly opens it while the rest of the passenger's and driver's door remain locked and the lock - unlock switch in front of gear shift lights up in orange color showing the key image. After closing the fifth door (trunk - boot) she locks as well automatically without pressing any key on the remote key fob.

I've noticed that behind and slightly right of the coolant container there is something like pencil pouch and one or two, i don't remember, tube/s from the coolant container goes in there.

But also there is a black foamy material which is enclosed into a plastic bag and fitted tightly in there. The question is Does your car has the same foamy thing in there? Should i remove it? Is there any danger from the temperatures?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well I asked my dealer and he told me that it is absolutely normal (having a plastic bag under the bonnet???? ) and this thing is fitted there due to high pressures of the coolant and fuel tubes/hoses. It is used to stabilize the tubes/hoses and keeps them a bit cooler. I think this is all crap but if he says so.... The car is under warranty.

JDW I'd like to thank you for your answers and your precious time.

No problem.

If you can work out how to post a photo, which I have not. Lets have a look at this plastic pencil box.

Thank you T81.

Its really not a problem and I enjoy winding up Jo. :giggle:

The entrance system has been well thought out. The window operation is a great touch as more expensive vehicles automatically check and close windows when activating the remote, to get these facilities on this vehicle is a big bonus.

I really like the design of allowing the driver full widow control by the remote.

The boot lock opening is another bonus, but a auto boot opening would have been the cream on top.

The two presses switch off internal sensors and full door locking, Should allow you to leave someone inside without activating the alarm. (will have to lock Jo inside to check this one out lol). But I have to be careful with this has on some cars by pressing twice initiates the Thatcham alarm.

Really the remote key functions are excellent; credit where it's due.
