Suspected DMF issue on Skoda Octavia DSG

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We have a 2006 Skoda Octavia (mk2) which has the DSG gearbox. For the past few months we've had a noise come from the gearbox area in the engine bay, it's like screws rattling around a can (quite noisy and irritating, as you can hear it from inside the car). it only happens when the car is in Neutral or in Park. If you put it in Drive and hold the car on the brakes, the noise goes away.

After doing some research, I think it might be the Dual Mass Flywheel but I need someone experienced to confirm it and give me a reasonable cost to get a new one fitted, before a catastrophic failure occurs leading to several $$$. If anyone else has had this problem and got it sorted, any info' would be great.

Does anyone know of a decent independent transmission specialist in the North-West that could help diagnose and confirm the problem and give a reasonable cost for the work needed? I don't want to go to some garage who doesn't really have a clue but will take the job on and in turn lead to major hassles...

Thanks in advance.

Where in the North West?

There is an auto trans and air con specialist in Crewe, no experience using them, but they have been there as long as I can remember.

That sounds exactly it is. Had mine done on the DSG too. Sadly you need a special DMF for the DSG, there are no aftermarket ones made, and the damn thing costs around 500 quid if I remember. basically, it was 900 quid give or take a few quid and that was WITHOUT changing the clutch, which I would recommend you do.

Have you seen the excellent thread on DMF issues (started by Cheezemonkhai) which is pinned at the top of the "General Guides" section?

OK, thanks for the pre-advice on the cost. I knew it might cost a few hundred but didn't realise it would be that much :S

I hadn't until you pointed it out. What a fascinating guide, thanks. From that I would guess it's definitely the DMF. It's just a case of getting someone in the know to confirm it and do it for a reasonable cost. I don't want to pay over the odds if I can help it.

I have one lead from rich17865 which I will look into, but if anyone has any personal experience with a garage competent to do this (preferably around the Manchester , then please let me know. Thanks.

What engine is it ?

It's a 1.9Tdi, engine code BKC.

Unfortunately it's quite a common failure on the dsg equipped cars, we're seeing more and more failures recently :'(
