Not sure how to make a permanant tips page (Of if anyone even wants one) But thought it might be a nice idea to share a few handy tips.

So here goes....

I have put a small elastic band around the nearside suspension strut, where it protrudes from the engine bay. This I use to hold the lid of the windscreen washer bottle open, whilst refilling it. Keeps a free hand, without over-bending the lid and causing it to snap at the plastic "Hinge"

Over time, the band may perish but how hard is it to fit a new one? I found mine near my front door, left by the postie and is just big enough to see and pull over the cap without looking sh-rubbish!

When checking your brake lights, try using an umbrella (Ella-Ella) Propped between the footbrake and the seat, to de-press the brake in order for you to go see if the lights are working. This helps if you have no-one to help or nothing to reflect your lights on to.

In place of an umbrella (Ella-Ella) You could try an anti theft device like a crooklock or anything similar.

to check my rear lights, i reverse up to a shop window or something like that - then i just look at the reflection in the glass!

You can fit mark 1 mats to the mark 2. They are the same shape, but the rear mats are a couple of mil out. Just buy the cheaper mark 1 mats.

Good tip but mine was designed for a situation where you may be working on the car, say checking oil, fluids etc and bulbs, on your lonesome. The reflection or helper idea is covered by the show/tell questions for a driving test so a little more obvious. Thanks for the input, though as some very simple ideas are not always widely known. B)

If you are parked but staying with or in the car in hot weather, opening the boot will let lots of hot air back out keeping the car a lot cooler then just leaving the windows open!

I've just realised that you can unscrew the aerial on the roof to clean it.

Is this a Viz type thread??? :S

Don't wipe your arse with a wet cement bag.

To relieve the boredom of driving on motorways close your eyes as long as you can, then see if you can beat your record.

Avoid parking tickets by leaving your windscreen wipers turned to 'fast wipe' whenever you leave your car parked illegally.

Micra drivers: Attach a lighted sparkler to the roof of your car before starting a long journey. You drive the thing like a dodgem car anyway

When going through a speed camera, flash your lights twice quickly and watch the driver in front hit his brakes when he thinks he's been caught

Octy drivers, drive with the boot open to avoid water collecting at the base of the rear window and drenching everything.
