vRS Grille Badge

Featured Replies

Just out of interest, as I'm making my car a bit sportier without making it look tacky/chavvy and trying to recreate the vRS exterior, does a Grille Badge need a backing plate because some on eBay don't include a backing plate and some do. So, what would I need if I was to put one on my grille?

David.

mines on with 3M double sided sticky foam tape stuff old one stolen (MOTHER TRUCKERS) its just sticking to the vertical slats of the grill itself and has been on fine for over a year inc threw that bad winter we just had.

All original tail gate badges got sticky backing, can only guess front 'SKODA' badge being the same??

Proper new badge will come with a backplate.

The backplate is glued to the slats. the badge sticks to backplate via

its recessed sticky pad.

Thats why it has a backplate... the sticky bit sits "inside"

the rear of the badge.

Part number 6Y0 853 679 MEL

Hahaha.. I knew this would pop up. I'm a student and its a 1.9sdi just trying to make it a bit more... 'mine'. Its only done 70k miles since 2002, and I think it would be a great shame to sell it on seeing as it suits my needs (and my insurance budget) right now. :)

Oh, does anybody know what the black door protectors/strips cost to have fitted?

Any clue of the cost? I'm ordering a few parts tomorrow from various garages, getting the splitter ready for when I get my new bumpers, the grille badge and the side strips.

Not sure about the other bits mate but the badge will be around the 12quid mark. Got mine from ebay for 10.99 posted.

Bump strips for the doors will probably be quite cheap I'd estimate a fiver each but may come as a set???

Thanks for your help Grr, I'm a bit wary about ordering the badge off ebay since I don't see the backplate in any of the pictures. Would the backplate come included if I went to the Skoda garage and bought it? I've resprayed the chrome grille surround matte black already, since my car is red just wanted to add that little edge to it, then saw there was another car on here with it done haha.. I've PMed PastyBoy about 2 new badges, still no reply though :( Shall be posting the pictures soon.

Do I need glue or anything to fit the backplate or is it ready for fitting? (sorry for going on)

Mine's held on with superglue. Araldite would be the best stuff, just use it sparingly or you'll make a

mess of the slats and its practically impossible to clean off once set.

There are little grooves on the rear of the backplate, this is to make sure it goes in the right spot.

As you look at the grille, the right hand side of the backplate should attach to the 3rd slat in from the right.

I rubbed mine down and painted it black but here's a pic for placement purposes.

Main dealer, £7 or thereabouts. 1ZO 103 940 D is the part number It's plain black, the silver is just light reflecting on its awesome shinyness :D

It's actually an engine cover badge adapted to fit there, I have them front and rear. nice

I think the one in the picture would suit the matte black surround.. How much did you have to change it to fit?

That's the kiddy mate

Had to smooth the back by cutting/melting off the nipples that are there to fit it where it's meant to go,

then covered the whole of the rear in good quality double sided foam tape, Then GRADUALLY bent it over a hot

radiator to get the curve. Once it matched the curve, I stuck it on.... It's slightly smaller than the proper badge so

be sure to get it central in the dip or will look wonky.

Hmm.. Theres a few little 'bits' on my grille surround in the little gap between the dip and the rest of it so I'm contemplating it.. I don't want them to be seen really, lol. Might nip down Skoda in the morning. You think it would still look good? I mean you can hardly see them but up close they do stick out, maybe its because there isn't a badge there right now. Also, how weather proof is the badge seeing as my proper ones had the laminate peeling off and discolouring the green bits.

It's only about 5mm smaller that's all.

Its made of solid moulded black plastic so should be FAR more durable than

the standard badge.

No chance of the water leaking through the laminate as it isn't laminated.

The key is to spend a few quid on a roll of good quality double sided foam tape.

It's only as durable as the tape holding it on. Mine can withstand over 120mph no probs. ( on this... ahem... private road I know.... ;) )
