Whistle/whine noise from induction on TFSI engine

Featured Replies

I have recently installed an aftermarket intake on my TFSI vRS Octavia, the car is standard apart from the induction kit.

It is a bit of a hybrid from a Pipercross venom kit, but with a Jetex open cone instead of the Pipercross venom filter (as it was too big physically).

From about 4000 rpm onwards on full throttle I get this annoying whistling/whining noise coming from the engine bay.

Here is a video link with exactly the same noise but from a BSH True seal intake, watch the video from about 1:12 onwards

Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas of how to cure it?

I have checked that the MAF is seated properly and the clamps are tight on the intake.

Here is a pic of my intake:

Hi mate,

i had exactly the same thing with a similar set up (ebay aluminium pipe with Apexi cone on the end). I think the solid pipe amplified a kind of resonance.

Nothing you can do really - the BSH ones are famous for it, just appears to be down to the design although based on my research into the BSH, some people seem to get no trouble at all. I swapped to an EVOMS in the end, no similar noise with that.

mine doesnt do it though. I sometimes get a whistle from low revs in high gears when i stick my foot down though

Thanks for the replies, might try refitting the clamps on the turbo end of the intake pipe. Tempted to lift the pipe slightly so its further away from the turbo intake and trying again.

i used the original OEM spring clips to install it. anyone want this intake off me, its coming off the car very soon ive lost interest in this car, i need a change might get rid of mine and get a mondeo St220. always wanted one of them, and after having an St TDCI i can confirm the chassis is way better than the mk5 platform, shame the engine was underpowered on it

vRSy, are you running a dv relocation kit on your car?

I have lifted the intake pipe, so that it's slightly further from the turbo and it seems to have stopped it. Fingers Crossed.

Hey bogwoppit, I have the exact same problem on a totally different kit I know this post was some time ago but would really appreciate some help! Did raising the intake solve he issue? Cheers Mark

Wow, blast to the past!

Yes lifting the intake up slightly in the silicone reducer and then refastening the clamps seemed to solve it. Whether it was a slight air leak or a resonance, I don't know.

I went back to the standard airbox several months later as the intakes I tried (Pipercross and Neuspeed P-Flow) were too loud for a daily driver IMO.

Sorry to bring this back up!!

I am now experiencing this noise after fitting the stage 2 intake pipe, did not do it with just induction before the MAF.

Has anyone else had this and solved it? im using a USP motorsports Tear duct from the US.

Same as the carbonio one or BSH.

Ive taken it off today, and made sure of no air leaks, which there isnt.

Noise is identical to video above.
