Need More Bass!

Featured Replies

Have an Alpine HU and changed all speakers to get a better sound.

Rears are Pioneer co-axials that sound OK for fill in, but the fronts are dissapointing to say the least!

Did a bit of hunting around on here and t'internet in general and decided that the Infinity 6500cs or Alpine SPS-171A would do for the fronts. Went to my local ICE house and they had neither in "....but could do me a good deal on these Focal 165A's"! Wish I hadn't bothered they have hardly any bass coming out of them

I've looked at the spec's and the Focal's are only 120w max, Nominal 60w and Freq range 60hz - 20KHz.

Being a bit of an ICE numpty, I presume that the lower the figure on the range means the better bass sound produced from them? The Alpine's have a range of 35Hz - 30KHz, and the Infinity's 53Hz - 21KHz, so the figures are lower, so should they produce more bass?

I ordered a small active sub woofer, (Blaupunkt ODSB 5000), last month but it must have got held up with the AAT bonnet lifter delivery  and still hasn't turned up, so I'm wondering whether to cancel it.

So should I just change the front speakers, or wait for the Sub?

Before anyone suggests a big sub and amp, it's not an option, I need the boot space for regular load lugging.

Ta in advance.

You will never get that much bass from a set of speakers running from a HU... the speakers are 60W rms your HU is giving aout about 15W rms...ignore the fact it says 60wx4 on the front... the best way to get decent results from the front speakers is to amp them...but still not match the full bass a sub will give so id wait for the sub to arrive this shoudl fill that bass gap quite nicly... also new speakers will produce less bass you will find over time when they losen up will produce slightly more...

Now the focals can reproduce lower Hz then the Infinitys but that does not meen that they will be bassier...what you will find is they will not distort as easily... when played loudly with low bass tones... the irony is from a speaker that size your never really going to hear that frequecy they produce..but you certainly woudl hear them distort... this is something you dont really have to worry about..just playing 'normal' music through them..
