Any Windscreen Fitters on here?

Featured Replies

OK, my road car is a 2001 Focus, and I had the front screen replaced a couple of weeks ago under insurance. The wiring for the heater is all there and present as it should be, but in the past the screen had been replaced with a non-heated one, so I got the company to re-fit a heated one.

However, it doesn't work; the connections for the screen haven't been fitted. There is a short bit of cable at the bottom of the screen (under the wiper mechanism cover) which goes between the screen and the car's wiring loom (an earth with a ring connection which is bolted to the body, and a single-pin live connection), which was just left with the old one (which had been cut off before the un-heated screen was fitted).

I know there are two types of heated screen for the Focus, one has the connections where mine should be, the other has the connections inside the passenger compartment up by the interior light.

My question is this - on an early-type heated Focus windscreen, does the screen come complete with the short cable which then plugs into the car's wiring loom (and the earth connection which bolts in place), or do you have to de-solder(?) it from the old windscreen to fit it to the new? I'm trying to establish exactly what's happened and what should have been done before I get back in contact with the fitting company to get it sorted - I think either they've fitted a later screen (connections in the wrong place, but I've checked where they should be and they're not there) or the screen doesn't come with the cables, and they would have needed them intact to solder them to the new screen.

All info/help appreciated as always.

Why not pay a visit to your local Ford main dealer .I've always found main dealers helpful ( except for one Ford one whose fitters didn't know that headlamps needed ignition on to work)
