My set of 16" "Beetle" steelies are at the powdercoater, and they are awaiting my decision on the colour by today!

The wheels will be fitted to a Silver Mk1 Octy vRS, with winter tyres. My dad told them to paint them silver for some reason (he dropped them off for me), but I have the option to change the order by the end of the day!

I'm thinking silver will look a bit old skool (makes me think of classic cars with silver steel wheels)! White would be rally-slag-pimp but impractical, so I'm leaning towards black..... but I'd like some opinions from you guys too.

These are the wheels if you don't know them: http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_IV--1.8T/Wheels/OEM_Steel/ES248394/

Thanks for the feedback guys

Out of interest, what hub caps/bolt covers you having on them or just the plain wheels? I need either some cheapo black/red alloys or a set of something like this..

Oh and Silver on Silver might clash if the silvers don't match. Black would be good since it goes with anything.

Whatever colour you paint them they'll get covered with snow and sh*te anyway :)

I say black

I've been trying to find some bolt/hub covers for them , but have so far failed!

The ones off a VW transporter are what I want, but they have the wrong PCD and they clip onto the bolt heads. Someone mentioned Polo caddy hub caps, which I need to look into.

If I can't find anything then they will have to go naked! Guess I could stuff condoms over the front hub nuts!

I'd go for black just cos its the colour most manufacturers use to paint a temp wheel/tyre....like a spare etc.

And everyone who saw the car with them on would know straight away that they are just winter wheels, and the good boulers have gone into hibernation :D

Edit: all except women :giggle:

Bill.

Silver, with black centre caps off a Caddy as long as PCD is the same.emoticon-0148-yes.gif . Caddy needs to be about 2005 onwards earlier one's are 4 stud.

What about Octavia Classic that the Taxi lads use do they come with centre caps on poverty spec.

Haha but you're a bit biased Jay!

Looks like I left it too late today anyway! I have to wait a few days as they only do one colour per day apparently! Black was today, silver is Wednesday. Think I'm sticking with black anyway. One factor was resale value, as I might need to sell them one day, and black will be easier to shift. I've also always had a secret dirty craving for black wheels!

I'd love to have them a stupid colour for a roadtrip or a weekend, but not sure I could live with attention all winter!

Cheers for all the feedback guys

white all the way sod impractical just clean them regula!!! would look the nuts!

i'm undecided on a colour but im gonna go mental with some track wheels, but as you might want to re-sell then i'd play safe with black

Black it is. But now they want to know if I want gloss or matte!

Thinking gloss for ease of cleaning and waxing..... am I right!?

I'd say so. Matte finish is a pain to clean as it appears to "stain" when wet
