What's the recomended Fuel for Fabia 1.2TSI petrol? (octane)

Featured Replies

hi,

i'm looking at getting a new Skoda fabia 1.2 ltr./63 kW TSI, here in russia There are a variety of octane ratings available, so i was wondering what octane level/rating would be best in therm for reliability?

Is a 1.2TSI engine will be as equally reliable by refueling it with 95 octane as it would be with a 98 octane? What the manufacturer's instructions say about it?

is there a real reason why i should refuel it with 98 octane?

thanks!

p.s: sorry for my english.

I wouldn't have thought there'd be any difference in reliability terms. More important might be the quality of the fuel purchased.

Direct injection petrols prefer higher octane fuel to help with a clean burn as they run very lean

95 can be used but at a reduced performance level, personally I run on super having seen some running issues on earlier FSI engines.

It is designed to run on 95 octane (in the UK) and the manual states that there will be no advantage to running it on 98/99 octane in terms of performance or economy. I have tried a tank of 99 and noticed no difference whatsoever. My engine is still new and tight though so this may reduce any effectt. My previous car, a 2.0 Octavia, gave a very slight economy benefit but barely enough to cover the price difference

One tank won't do anything on its own, not enough time for the ECU to adapt to the higher octane rating.

Like I said 95 is fine but as the performance figures are normally given running on 97+ they will be slightly lower.

That's an affirmative from me too Lummox. Many modern bike engines react the same way now. but 95ron is fine.

I'll try it with a few tanks, although the results may be skewed by it being a new engine loosening up?

Most of the data stickers read like that now stating Super 95min.

But if you think about how the FSi engine works then a higher octane fuel is going to work better. But like I said is was the earlier 1.6 FSi with the NOx sensors that really didnt like anything less then 98, I think they realised that wasnt suitable for the UK and mapped cars more for us.
