Any pointers whilst I wait for AA.

Driving along steady 50 mph, slight backfire, ASR light comes on, oil light flashing, coil light on, rev counter drops to zero. Engine still running sweet though. Pull over, check oil, try to restart - engine turn over but not start. After 10 min engine started then quit.

Cheers, Dave

Sound like fuel pressure to me

Mis-fuel?

A similar thing "might" have occurred to a friend the other day.

Any pointers whilst I wait for AA.

Ok back in the real world...when did you last fill up? Was it somewhere differant? Might be water in the fuel.

Thanks everyone - car with main dealer - watch this space!!!

I had the same thing happen yesterday, stopped and topped the oil up a bit, then went on my way - refilled the tank last night (different petrol station).

The weird thing is that the same event happend within half a mile of the same spot yesterday - maybe the car doesn't like chugging along behind lots of traffic!

For me the strangest part of it all is that the rev counter dropped to zero - but the engine was still thrumming away - no problemo.

Cheers, D

Ley Lines?

UFO (Close Encounters) Easy test. Put a big plate of mash on your bonnet and see what happens.

Sounds VERY much like its the alternator in fact, a mates one went and the dials kept dropping to 0 and ALL the warning lights came on. The 'nator was putting out about 16v I think!

The AA man checked the voltage on the battery when the car fired up - it was showing 14.6 volts. Admittedly I'd turned the a/c, radio, and iphone charger off...

The latest from the garage:

engine sensor replaced / engine mgt sensor (not sure what that is).

there is a fault in the wiring loom - which they are tracing (but fiddly/difficult to do).

The mechanic mentioned about a possible new ECU - that sounds pricey.

Injector wiring loom can have problems and that to me would be a good place to start as I thought it sounded like fuelling too.

I keep checking with the garage each day, but it's still not fixed. They have changed 2 or 3 sensors, to no avail, and are continuing to look at wiring. I think they have been in contact with Skoda UK for ideas, and they have suggested a couple more things to look at.

I know they are doing their best, it's quite difficult when it's not clear what the problem is. Normally you go to a garage and they say it is the flex capacitor and will cost you $345. But not with this :-( I'm not sure what the final bill will be - I'm also worried it will never get fixed :-/

I guess with wiring looms we are potentially looking at breaks, and bad connections. and if it's engine/fuel wiring then it's difficult wiring to work on all in trick locations?

I wonder if there is a website that has known skoda wiring problems that I could take a look at - to get a better idea of things?

Try another dealer? Their ability can vary hugely.

They've always been really good. My frustration is the nature of this type of problem - it's not a straight forward fix.

I've been looking at wiring issues with the VAG PD 1.9 and 2.0 TDI engines - looks like I'm not the only one to have problems.

Must keep the faith!
