Interesting engine comparison graphs, Fabia 2

Featured Replies

Great plots, well done on finding them. Backs up my recent experience comparing a 1.4 85bhp polo with my 1.2 TSI 85 bhp Fabia.

Just shows what a pointless measure max bhp is of how a car will drive.

Are they real measured figures? The flat bits at the top of the torque curves look a bit strange.

Diesel: http://www.railweb.sk/Skoda/Skoda_mot_Fab2d.html

One can see that across most of the useable rev range (up to about 4000 revs) even the 85BHP TSI is delivering more power than the old 1.6 16v engine. The 1.6 only has more top end (but less than the 105BHP TSI)

Thanks - very interesting. However, when the torques and revs are the same, shouldn't the power be the same? For example, the diesel torque curves for 1.6tdi/77kW and 1.9tdi/77kW cross over at 3.4k and 4.2k . But the power curves cross over at 2.9k and 4.1k. The petrol curves have similar anomalies. Don't they measure the torque and calculate the power from this?

(Note: they should be related as follows: Power = 0.001 * Torque * rpm * 2 * pi / 60, where Power =kW and Torque = Nm)

Interesting comparison curves. I see the 1.6 TDi has a little more max torque than the 1.9 TDi PD. I know which engine I'd rather have though ;)
