Glowplug Problem

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

I had a service a couple of days ago and a few fault codes were found - i know there is a fault code area but it seem, deserted? so to up the liklehood of a response i posted here;

00924 - Relay for Headlamp Cleaning System (J39) - 009 Open or Short to Ground;

Fault Status: 011101001

Fault Frequency: 1

Reset Counter: 101

Mileage: 134266

Time Indication: 0

It lists a bunch of other stuff, including part numbers (3CO 937 049 E), component (Bordnetz-SG) etc

BUT where is it located and is it easy to fix?

Then I also have a Glow Plug Circuit, Electrical Fault (17055: Q10= P0671 - 000, 17057: Q12= P0673 - 000, 17058: Q 13= P0674 - 000 and 17056: Q11= P0672 - 000)

This reads the same for Cylinder 1 (Q10), 2 (Q12) and 3 (Q13) but the torque and voltage differ on Cylinder 2 (Q11) - 36.6Nm for 1,2,3; 141.5Nm for 2 and 14.52v for 1,2,3; 12.01v for 2.

Anyone had this before? Is it a problem with the Glow Plugs or Controller (it seems odd that all 4 would fail like this?) Garage think it is the plugs and suggest a change if the fault re-occurs when they scan it for me soon as a follow up (no charge) but anyone got any experience/knowledge on this??

And finally - my shocks both have slight leaks - anyone got any experience of changing these and how easy or not it is? (I recently changed the front discs/pads so I'm relatively capable with this sort of thing)

Help is much appreciated!

A garage with real mechanics will can check the glowplugs for you by checking the voltage and resistance of the plugs.

As for the dampers, the fronts will definitely need spring compressors, and probably a bench vice and Stilson to get the cartridges in and out. Not sure about the rears on the mk2.

Relay for Headlamp Cleaning System (J39) - 009 Open or Short to Ground - do your headlamp washers work?

On the glowplugs issue, do you have any issue with slow starting, or hesitancy in starting? How long does the glowplug light stay on for when you goto Ignition position 2, before starting the engine?
