Hi all,

I bought a Felicia a couple of months ago as a cheap runaround as i have just bought a house. just after buying it it started making a knocking noise but only when minimal throttle was applied (for example when keeping the car at a constant speed). The knocking has gotten worse over the last few months and it now happens when the clutch is press in and also when there is no throttle (but it is quieter). The car also sometimes makes a knocking noise when pulling away, but its more like a 'clonk' like one of the engine mounths is gone and the engine is movning under load.

I have checked all the mounts and they all seem fine, there is a little play in the gearbox mount but only the amount there is meant to be with the bush. I got under the car about a month ago and saw that the boot on the passengers side inner CV joint was knackered so i bought a whole new inner CV joint and changed it.

I am getting a little fed up of the noise to i had nother look around last night and the only thing that has some play in it is the new CV joint which moves in and out anout 5mm and and be turned a very small amount. I check the other side and there is a little movement on the other original inner CV joint too. Have I messed up the installation of the new CV joint or is there meant to be a little play?

If its not the CV joint what else could it be? I can't see any plat in any of the bushed or ball joints on either side.

Are you sure it's not the bottom (rear) gearbox mount? The "klonk" is most common from that. I've had wishbones do something similar when they were on the way out on a Fav rally car, but most of the noises like this have been the gearbox mount.

Is it the mount at the back of the box at the bottom? I had a quick look but could see anything from the top. Can i test this by putting the car in first and getting the clutch to bite while the car is chocked up with the handbrake on?

Sixth post shows pics of the mounting in question. You'll probably find the engine "rocks" a fair bit if it is this.

Jorily, I think it's in the same thread; make sure you get the right one for your car as the other engine sizes are different (slightly), apparently.
