An interesting chart but curious as to why the Yeti is so unsuccessful - it's very much in the 'also-ran' category. Why would the Qashqai be outselling the Yeti roughly 12:1? (If I've read the chart correctly.) Maybe the long wait that's necessary for a Yeti is a partial explanation, but then I can't imagine that many fo the other models are available off the shelf either.

But, looking at this, my tentative conclusion would be that 'crossovers' (however that rather arbitrary marketing category is defined) is definitely developing as a serious sector within the new car market as a whole, but that the Yeti is not being very well received relative to its peers (except of course amongst the cognoscenti, ie anyone here).

Another thought: Maybe Skoda is still struggling to get recognition as a quality brand in Italy?

The Qashqai is a trendy car of the moment which doesn't costs a lot more than Yeti... and, may be, continous heavy presence on TV and radio spot makes the difference.

Yeti was advertised at beginning of 2010 on every network with a very nice spot (a rap song against "big and wide SUV vehicle"), but at present time Skoda prefers to "push" on Roomster and Fabia.

A lot of people when I say Skoda Yeti can't figure which car is...

Due the past models, is a difficult mission to complete... and some dealers don't facilitate the job with their "lazy" behaviors...

Data from Finland and some comments

	6/10	1-6/10
VW golf	732 3822 (just to get an idea of the market size)
Yeti 89 523
Qashqai 496 2330

(as a side note, the 2nd most popular car in Finland is Octavia, with 610 cars sold in june and 3662 in the first half of the year, and Skoda is the 3rd most poular brand with a growth of 64% compared to last year!)

I think the main reason for the sales figures for the SM being so moderate is that they are not delivered. At least in Finland there is currently a 8 mths wait, meaning that If would order a SM now I might get it in february next year. It would be interesting to see figures of placed orders instead... I can also imagine that the long wait might scare some potential customers away.

Just goes to show how COMMON the Qashqai REALLY is.

Lets hope the SM remains exclusive :D

I've just come back from a 300 mile round trip to North Wales (Llandudno) down the A5 through Snowdonia and back. Saw loads of Qashquais and plenty of other SUVs - CRVs, Freelanders, Kugas, etc.

Did I see just one other Yeti? No! Talk about exclusive! emoticon-0178-rock.gif

I think we all would love to see the Yeti sell like hot cakes as it validifies our own purchase. You can point to all the other people that bought the same car and that means it must be good - but (like the Cashcow) they will then also be very common and invisible. If on the other hand they don't sell well (but are good - as we know) then we all get a very distinctive and scarce car as a result. I prefer the latter to be honest. Lets keep the Yeti for the "informed few". emoticon-0140-rofl.gif
