Hello everyone, im new to briskoda so hello everyone! Basically I have a skoda octavia SDI classic that I bought as a cheap reliable run around, however im getting sick of the 68bhp that I have on tap and im wondering what limited options I have to bump that figure up a notch.

Other than that, It has been a brilliant reliable economical solid car that I would reccomend to everyone.

Being a normally aspirated engine, then there is very little if anything you can do. You maybe able to extract an extra 5bhp or so, but it will cost a lot and you wont notice it. To tune a diesel you really need to have the TDi engine, then you can play with boost and fuelling.

If you stick a panel filter in it and run it on shell V power diesel you may just make 70bhp.......I used to own one so I know what they are like :yes:

It would be cheaper to swap the car. Tuning a normally aspirated diesel would not be cost effective, and would not achieve much.

I think the tuning boxes only work with TDIs and no, they're not very good, it's better to get a proper remap.

I have a Skoda Fabia I SDi 2000 W reg. It has only a meagre 64hp. I've been finding in this warm weather that the 100% biodiesel I've been running the car on has made a difference in performance. especially, when accelerating in 5th gear. In fact the car feels much more responsive. I can't guarantee it being the best option, but it seems to be the best way to get a little extra output out of this old engine. I've been using biodiesel for the majority of fills over the last 5000 miles and no problems so far. I'd advise a fuel filter change which is a DIY job.

I have to say the SDi is constantly ridiculed as being underpowered. Yes, it is not a fast car. However with some knowledge of the gearing you can get some decent performance. In fact in-gear acceleration in 3rd is very good. I remember an article from diesel car testing the old Mk4 Golf SDi (has a similar but slightly different engine to my Fabia with a 68hp output, similar to the Octavia) against the Astra 2.0Di and it compared favourably. I have a friend who drives a new shape Mazda MX5 and he felt the car to have a lot of oomph as did a friend who drives a newer shape Toyota MR2. Remember, this car is about reliability, not refinement or performance, it has many industrial applications which is a testament to its strength. Regular oil changes, filters and basic checks witl keep it running strong.

It's basically a box with a resistor in it that tricks the engine into thinking it needs more fuel - so it "over-fuels", increasing power. Probably not worth £70, and you're unlikely to see anything more than a single-digit increase in bhp whilst potentially using more fuel and chucking out great clouds of soot.

Quickest, easiest and most certain way of getting more power is probably to chop it in against a TDi.

You could also try chatting with someone at a TurnerTune or Bosch Diesel place, because they can probably open out the standard injection pump for an extra 6 or 7 bhp.
