Water leaking into car

Recommended Posts

Hi

I just bought my GF a Fabia 19 Combi diesel because she needs to carry a lot of gear around for work. But this evening when we went out to the car the floor on the drivers side rear was full of water. Has anybody any ideas as to where I should start looking for the cause?

Well I just spent the day stripping the two rear doors and sealing them up as per guide  Now all I need is a good shower of rain to see if my repair worked.

I had the same problem with my son's 1.4MPI.

The whole bloody floor was wet and I mean wet when we bought it.

Since we have been having rain regularly here, I thought maybe he did

leave the windows down and forgot to close them when it started raining

as he explained.

Anyway, spent one Sunday afternoon taking out the door cards and sealing

all the 4 door carrier as suggested.

After drying out the carpet ( plenty of old newspaper under the rubber mats and

keep changing them when they become wet ) the floor of the back seats were dry.

That is after about 2 weeks but the front passenger side was as wet as eve.

The driver's side was a little bit damp but not as before.

On days when there was no rain, it was still wet after changing out the newspaper.

I suspected the aircon condensant water was the culprit and took it to a aircon

tech friend of mine.

He stripped out the centre console, glove box and a lot more and found that it was

indeed the water from the aircon. The culprit was another sealing problem, this time

a black metal plate in the firewall, you can see the aircon condensate water flowing

out from behind it.

We found out that to remove and seal between the metal plate and firewall involve

removing alot of other stuff, so we decided to seal it the way I did with the carrier in the door..

Its sealed and we'll test it out tmr and see if the problem is solved.

Will try to get a picture or two if he hasn't put it all back when I get there tmr am.
