I've been phoning round today for quotes for the above work and for the cambelt, water pump and service my local dealer quoted me £556.43 and £48.18 for the brake fluid change inc VAT making it £604 !!!

Needless to say I wasnt too impressed with there prices...

So...

I phoned an independent vw/seat/skoda specialist and got a quote of £275 for the cambelt and waterpump, £120 for the 70k service and £32.30 for the brake fluid change making it £427 inc VAT

All genuine skoda parts aswell

Also got a quote from the same garage for fitting a clutch (labour only) of £140

I was quite impressed with the price of the independent specialist so I've got it booked in.

What have other people paid for the same work as above ?

Them prices are very decent. I would ask for their number if I was local. It's a shame I live south. At least about 20% cheaper than independant's in my area.

I paid £346 for Cambelt/Auxcilliary belt/Water-pump and renewed G12 coolant, from independant garage.

Did my own Brake-Fluid (DOT4 )change, £5.00 for 1litre and a packet of fags for a friends help.

Depends what level of service you have ie: all filters+oil about £70 + labour £35/£50 hour at a garage, whether Dealer or Independant garage.

Popped my own filters +oil change in/on car, saved on labour for those items.

Rest of a service is an inspection of vehicle body /components/ tyres / checking fluid levels, topping up as necessary.(All DIY)

It got revised down from 80,000 & 5 yrs to 60,000 & 4 yrs as a service advisory, IIRC.

I just got cambelt kit, water pump, coolant and lambda sensor before catalyst replaced for £540 at a main dealer, I was quoted £200 for the lambda sensor and £460 for tha cambelt+water pump+coolant, but managed to get it down to that in the end. The cambelt kit was about £110 and the lambda sensor £125. Work was 2.1 hours for cambelt and 0.5 hours for sensor. 10% discount on parts. I think was OK as my local VW specialist was quoting £350 just for cambelt. I phoned to 3 other dealers and they all quoted around £460 for cambelt and £210 for lambda sensor.

I got my timing belt fitted for £50

AmD charge about £500ish for major service and cambelt/water pump jobby...it's where I'll be heading when I've saved enough wonga.

I could get it done for nothing aswell really as my brother is very good mechanically but he mainly works on vauxhalls and isnt too keen to do major things like that on my car (yet) plus I'm wanting the stamp in the book aswell which will be good when I come to sell up

were volvo mechanics all there lifes,

younger of the two is around 75 i think, other lads 80+ they work every day in life lol

they've done oodles for me, fitted a helix, 312's, suspension, brakes, timing belt

theyre based near eastriggs just off the a75, richardson and freeman i think

honestly they charge prices like its still 1969 lol
